My 7 year old child told me yesterday to turn the song on the radio because it made his penis hard and it made it vibrate. I didn't know what to say so I kinda changed the subject. Then he told me that when he sits next to his "girlfriend" at lunch it happends then too. Is this normal???

I have 12yr old and 8 yr old boys. My 8 yr old has been talking about his penis & how it gets hard for a few years now and it's directly related to the fact that his older brother tells him EVERYTHING he has learned. Maybe your boy heard it somewhere & just wants to talk about it too. But, the other answerers have a good point about making sure he hasn't been "hurt" in any way. I'd find that out as fast as possible. If he's just curious about how his pee pee gets hard, then that is pretty normal I'd say. It's natural for a young boy to be curious about it. I'm sure the song had nothing to do with it, he probably just got hard for no reason while the song was on so he thought the song did it! As far as the girlfriend.....I think that he probably heard it somewhere that girls can make your pee pee hard.

This is a little unusual. But it is good that he's open with you about it. If he brings it up again, I would be prepared to ask some questions CALMLY and find out what's up (no pun intended, sorry).

At an even earlier age, my son told me things like that he liked to stand with his penis under the faucet in the bathtub because it felt good and stuff like that. I didn;t worry about it--worried more about hiim standing up in the tub than his penis. This whole "girlfriend" business is a little strange.

Maybe he saw a movie, or heard someone talkiing, and is just repeating what he heard. At any rate, I would not worry too much and I would try in a subtle way to find out what's going on.

Well, I wouldn't go as far as to say that it's not normal, however, being sexually aware at such an earl age does raise an eyebrow or two. Little bos go through many physical and hormonal changes from very early on. I don't think you shopuld have too much a problem as long as you have researched a little bit and made sure nobody is "introducing" him to these thoughts and ideas. And, make sure that you begin talking about the birds and the bees a little bit.

Yes this could happen sometimes. Male hormones are crazy. Male's penis' can get "hard" sometimes during at the age of 5 for no apparent reason this is called a random erection. I think your child is playing around when he said that his penis turns "hard" when he listens to a song.

It's awesome that he told you that and I would be happy if my son trust me enough to tell me that!! I think it's normal, even smaller kids can have erections during sleep!! and it's nothing sexual! I understand why you felt weird and changed the subject but next time please don't, let him tell you everything he feels!! keep up the good work, he obviously trust you a lot and feels comfortable telling you that. Some smaller kids even "masturbate" or play with themselves and it's got nothing to do with sex!! talk to his pediatrician so you have some peace of mind!

Oh my god ppl, just be honest w/ the darn kid. Tell him it is NORMAL because it is, but there is a time and place to talk about those things. Ask his father to have a MALE talk w/ him about it or if there is no father try asking a MALE relative or friend to have a heart to heart talk w/ Ur son about those issues. Females can not give advise on a subject we do not, personally, have problems w/.

Not every child experiences arousal that much, that early on, but it's normal enough. Although puberty doesn't set until much later, a child of seven can still get aroused. It's perfectly fine.

Your problem really is how to deal with it, for which I don't really know how to. As a single man, parenting isn't my biggest forte.

Well usually not with a 7 year old because these are boys signs of going through puberty. Yes it is possible to go throught puberty at 7 years of age but it is very rare. I will tell you more if you email me at: kararattermann@yahoo.com

I have two boys ages 12 and 11 and they have never told me that.. lol.. He may just be saying that because he heard it somewhere else.. He is a little too young for that to be happening I would think. Just ask him if he heard that somewhere. Try not to worry about it..
