If it las legalised the government could tax it, prices would be controlled and criminals would lose a source of income. Sounds like a good idea.

The prisons are full of people who's only crime was being addicted to drugs. Back when they first started making laws against drug users they said the punishment should not be more severe than the consequences of the effects of the drug. they should have a rehab type program instead.

People can become addicted to many things, and each year, thousands die on our highways from alcohol. Do we really want to double or even triple that number by legalizing something like Meth, Cocaine, or even pot?

What would your response be if your mother, father and brother or sister were wiped out in a traffic accident, leaving you the only one alive, and the other driver who was at fault, was wasted, don't matter on what, but totally wasted??

Its a medical fact that some drugs are so addicting, that people are willing to do anything to get them. Girls prostitute, guys steal, and yes, sell their bodies, sometimes to other guys, run the risk of all kinds of diseases.

Don't think making something as deadly as drugs legal can be off set by the taxes it would generate, verses the numbers of people being killed by those drugs.

It is. The drug trade finances criminality, indeed contributes to the overall levels of crime. It`s time to remove from these criminal corporations , their main source of income worldwide. Prohibition, it is clear, dose not work with drugs, any more than it did with booze.Legalise and tax, using the money raised to treat those foolish enough to have indulged, educating the children of the future not to.

Sure! It costs the American taxpayers up to $100,000 a year to house, feed, clothe, and provide medical/dental care for an inmate in a prison or jail, and it only costs $10,000-$30,000 to put them through rehab. Do the math! We've lost the War on Drugs! Let's get over it and do something about the causes of addiction, like poverty, lack of education, lack of good parenting classes, poor health care systems in place, people trying to make a buck off of anybody and everybody, a corrupt political system, etc...

Yes, it would save us all money, cut crime and allow the police to do their jobs better.

Think about it, if all drugs were legal, would you go out and get yourself a smack habit ? I think not. Neither would I. Do you know anyone who would, just because it was now legal ? Unless they are already sad enough, why bother ? The dealers would go out of business - think of the effect that would have on your neighbourhood. It's a no brainer, legalise all drugs.

yes - the sooner we do the better. In Amsterdam they were going to get a register together of Dutch addicts on hard drugs - if they got together over 1,000, they were going to give them free drugs (the only proviso was that they HAD to be Dutch) and they couldn't find enough Dutch people to register, so abandoned the idea. See what a more liberal outlook does!

No i don't think decriminalizing drugs is the answer to solving drug addiction. We need more affordable drug rehabilitation program and housing to get people off the bad stuff, and stop bad drug manufactures and drug pushers.

That would be the sensible thing as it would deprive politicians of a group to blame, it would deprive chief constables of empire-building and it would wind up the bigots. Sounds all right to me.
