yes you are absolutely right. religion which once was used as a preventive measure for refraining people from committing sins is now a days being used as a tool to divide people. in the past also millions of people died in the so called holy wars, jihadis, crusades.a cursory look at the questions and answers posted in the R S category which spew venom against other religions and which are meant to flare up communal passions, will tell us that religions should be done a way with and rational thinking and scientific temper should occupy the thrones of the hearts of the people.

I think religion needs to be put to the test.

If people who claim they can do no touch knockouts with chi, and can create "magical" chi forcefields are denounced as frauds and laughed at, why don't we apply the same standards to the so called religious personalities that make the same claims about the bible and faith.

EDIT:
Hey mediocrity, most of the world also believed that the earth revolved around the sun, the universe was created in 6 days + 1 rest period and that it was good to leave raw meat out because it would sprout new life in the form of maggots. Even today most people believe the chi **** I posted about but was disproved above in those videos. How about having those who want thier opinions regarded as plausible they should prove them. In the absense of proof of some mysterious force known as god or gods, then all it is is an opinion, and everyone has an opinion just like everyone has an a sshole and guess what they both stink.

Such a rut it is.... Let's see, Pagan religion created the Pantheon in Rome, the largest free-standing dome EVER until the 1960's. It took secular engineers nearly 2000 years to surpass it.

Christian engineers and artists have profited the world much with their beauty and grandeur.

When will people finally figure out that religion isn't the problem. It's the people WITH religion and closed minds and confrontational attitudes that are te problem.

Christ never took up a stick and called to his disciples "Hey Homies, grab some bats and let's pound some homos." That's the invention of man, such as those at the Westboro Baptist Church.

We need to separate the church from the people, the fundamentals from the fundamentalists and the rhetoric.

A religion is fine as long as it doesn't put down others simply because they believe differently.

I'm certainly not a Christian, but I do see great beauty in that faith. It's the folks who mess with it that are tearing up the world.

Okay, the no tolerance thing, I understand that. And being a Christian, I do NOT, contrary to popular belief, advocate that. Hatred, obviously, isn't a Christian value. What you are calling the my-way-only-way- philosophy and confusing with hatred actually has a name, and it was around long befor the churches split into denominations and people were just out to prove who was right. It's called the Great Commission, and you can find it in Matthew 28:18-20. It says *Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."* It isn't about proving who is right, but following God's command and proving and sharing WHAT is right, what is true. I don't understand what you mean by "this RUT religion has put us in" because I know my faith in God has brought me through countless trials in my life. Without the power of prayer and the loving and listening God who answers them (according to His will, not ours, He just wants us to ask Him so that we know He provides.) I know that I wouldn't be here on earth today. I have had multiple near-death experiences in my short lifetime that prove that miracles still happen. I think that you are confusing the definition of religion with that of Faith, and you need to separate them before you can truly understand Christianity and the wonder of God. There is no such thing as a coincidence. Remember that next time you think one occurs.

I believe that all religions say and preach basically same values with little twist on them because of time in which they came in to being, most people were born some thing. It was not by choice, they were born in that particular religion.

It is the foundation on which most people base their whole life.

No religion say do wrong, for every religion that preaches present the other chick there are other that say eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth, figuratively it means the punishment must be equal to or must fit the crime, but some take it up on themselves to do what suite them the most.

Good question, well worded.

But religion is not the problem unless it teaches intolerance. Christ did not teach intolerance, at least not at the core of his teachings. God should be able to provide sufficient judgement that we can all go about our business as healers and caretakers. Nevertheless, many Christians practice intolerance.

Some have accused the Koran of teaching intolerance. If it is true then we need to get to the bottom of it and make tolerance the bottom line from now on. We are going to have to create a common discussion for the earth and get to work.

No religion should have control over the government if it is going to enforce abuse on anybody. No government should have control over a church if it is going to tell people how to worship.

Both parties should be subject to an open system featuring democratic dialogue, redefinable, universal codes of wisdom, compassion and peacekeeping. It is a big thing to expect today, but it will be the most rewarding thing we could ever accomplish.

We must also work diligently to uncover the unacknowledged interests who seek to undermine peace for the sake of personal gain.

We can't expect to find immediate agreement, but we can work to create peaceful, honest, and effective dialogue.

You are right. Religion should be done away with, as long as you know there is a big difference between Christianity and religion, and Catholicism, and religion, etc.. Religion is what does people in. They get all caught up in it. But for Christians, it's not about the religion, it's about the belief. Good Luck!!!!

I think mass religion is a bad idea. However I am Christian, but I believe what my Bible tells me not what man tells me I always cross reference somebody's theories. But if you are speaking of religion in the word as a whole such as taking away religious freedom and peoples right to worship the God of their choice, then perhaps you should leave R/S, that would be easy, and something you can do right now.

The way to do that is to let it run loose so there really is freedom of (and from) religion, but not to subsidize it with tax exemptions or coddle it by allowing it to discriminate or commit various crimes in the name of [favorite deity here].

These crimes include substituting faith "healing" for real medicine, harassing homosexuals, murdering doctors in the name of life, pretending creationism is on the same level as evolutionary science, threatening people with hell if they don't believe, and so on.

In a diverse society, everyone must follow the same, religiously-neutral laws. And if religion wants to be free to proselytize, then the rest of us must be free to criticize. Don't let them get away with telling lies about abortion and evolution!
