I say have a serious talk with your husband. Your concerns about your family's diet are totally valid. Your kids may be skinny now but that doesn't equal healthy (and if they keep living off of junk food they probably won't stay skinny). Do a bit of research on childhood nutrition and show it to him. Even if he's a junk food junkie himself, he'd have to be totally irrational to not want better for his kids. Tell your husband you want to raise healthier kids and you'd like his support. Limit takeout night to once a week - Friday, maybe. It should be a treat, not a norm or expectation. Ask him what homecooked meals he likes and make them with fresh ingredients. Don't say "vegetarian" just yet if it scares him, but rather cook a stir fry without meat, or a meatless pasta dish. Most omnivores like several veggie dishes but don't ever think of them that way. Don't let the kids snack from after breakfast until lunch! They're young enough that you still control what they get. If you give them a nice healthy breakfast, a midmorning piece of fruit and a nice lunch, they won't starve. You're the parent - don't give into their demands, no matter how persistent they are. It will only teach them to nag. Frankly, I have no idea why your son is allowed to never eat fruit or vegetables. I don't mean to be harsh but you have no valid excuse for letting him get away with that. You don't have to make him eat EVERYTHING, but he does need fruits and veggies on a regular basis. My parents wouldn't shove something I absolutely hated down my throat, but hating EVERYthing...would not have flown. I was NEVER allowed to leave the dinner table until I'd had at least five bites of my vegetables. No dessert if I didn't eat my apple slices or salad. I was allowed ONE snack a day after school, and that was it until dinner. Whining, crying and nagging didn't sway my parents, so in time we stopped trying those tactics. Those were the rules, my siblings and I followed them, and even though we weren't always happy about it - oh well. The parents are the ones in control, and with kids that young, that's how it should be. Your frustration comes through your post and I feel for you. A lifestyle change is tough, and even tougher without your partner on board. It won't be easy, but learn to take control. Tell him how important this is to you. Don't cave to the kids' begging. Have a family meeting and set up the new rules for snacking (discuss with your husband first) - one morning snack, one afternoon snack, and one of the two has to be fruit (or something like that). Follow the rules yourselves - hypocrisy will just anger the kids - and if your husband really has to have his Oreos, can't he take them to the office, or keep them out of sight and eat them after the kids are in bed?

Why don't you ask them what they like to eat? That will save you some money if you buy the wrong ingredients. Also, kids love cheese, so if you whip something together with cheese such as vegetables *wink *wink, chances are that they'll at least try it. Also, what kind of kid wouldn't take a slice of pie? or a cookie? However, make sure that the main course is appealing to them first because I'm sure their parents don't want their kids to just be eating pie all day... although that does sound fun. =)

Whatever they lke best of what is offered.
By the way one of the best ways to avoid pickiness is to stop food battles. Offer good , simple foods, and let the kid decide what to eat and how much. Do not nag, cajole, or make a big deal of it. Tell them they can taste it if they want to, and can spit it out if they don't
like it. Six kids in my family and not a picky eater in the bunch.

Most kids like yellow food. Go for some macaroni and cheese, and maybe corn.
Kids usually like food they can eat with their hands. We used to love corn on the cob and thought it was a great treat. Most kids I know are happy to eat rolls with butter. Corn muffins are good too.
I would buy a package of drumsticks --either turkey or chicken-- to cook along with the turkey-- most kids love the drumstick and since there are only two on the bird, having extra means no fights over who gets them.
The kids in my family nowadays like fruit. A simple fruit cup with green grapes and orange segments, or maybe some melon, might do the trick.
Whatever you decide, your kids will not starve... and have fun...

Take some of the turkey meat and make fried turkey strips like chicken strips. Serve that with a little mashed potatoes and your kids will be very happy.

Green beans, mashed potatoes, turkey, and since most that are picky eaters have really big sweet tooths(I don't get it, either) a small piece of pumpkin pie. That's what we feed my niece, she's 8 and refuses to anything she hasn't tried.

rolls, mashed potatos, try this yummy cold dessert salad: 1 small bag of mini marshmallows, 1 can crushed pineapples(drain, but save a small amount of juice), 1 large can manderine oranges, 16oz. sour cream. Mix all together & add small amount of juice. Let cool in fridge. My brother is SUPER picky, but can eat a whole bowl of this stuff.
