am taking paracetmol for the pain.
but find heat really comforting. Is it bad for my ear?

I wouldn't blow heat in the ear but I know when I used to get earaches I would cup my ear with my hand and it would feel better. You should be getting rid of the pain from the infection in a day or two.

Hot water bottle or heating pad is great for pain relief.
