My cats always sit at the food bowl and meow until i come and pet them while they eat. They have food in it already so its not that they are hungry. 2 out of my 3 cats do it. I think its cute but a little weird

If you have ever seen a litter of kittens nursing, you will see that the mother cat grooms them while they are nursing. This is affection as well as hygiene. She will also signal that she is ready to nurse by beginning to groom the babies. Your cat sounds like it is a great big baby that wants your love. I think it is adorable.

sometimes my kitten likes to start eating when I pet him near his food bowl. It's really funny, he'll be purring and chewing, and sometimes he'll make a meow sound and food will fall out of his mouth and the sound will come out all weird. It's hilarious. But he'll still eat if I'm not petting him. Also, I have a friend whose cat would not eat unless somebody was watching him. So weird.
But if they make you pet them every time they eat it can become annoying, and you'll end up spoiling them if you always do it. My suggestion is that if you ignore them, eventually they'll get hungry enough to just eat without you standing with them.

My cat always tries to thank me when I feed her. She looks at me and does that chirpy meow then butts my hand like she wants to pet her. Then she's more willing to eat. Your cat will eat by herself if she's hungry enough, but like the other poster said, it's a quirk of hers. I wouldn't be concerned.

My cat will meow until I get up and go with him. Jumps where his bowl is and I have to start petting him then he will start eating and purring at the same time, Sometimes I give gime a little spanking on his bodie and he is happier and purrs louder.

At the Maddie's Adoption Center in San Francisco we would have a number of cats whom we dubbed "affection eaters". They would not eat unless a human was present.

I have never experienced that with my own cats.

That's strange. My cat won't let me near her when she's eating.

Maybe it feels soothing and calming reactions while you pet them.
