Why do those with 'hardened' Christian and Muslim beliefs' insist on giving the thumbs down or reporting answers as abuse if the answer contraveins their view point...
And why do they think that we must view religion from their point of view and not accept that in a free thinking society we have the right to not agree with them?

Because, like you said, they are "hardened" to the point of being rigid in their view.

I find it is the hardened atheists that keep giving thumbs down to anyone who gives a religious viewpoint.
What do they expect on the religion and spiritualty forum? In any case, why are atheists even on this forum when they refuse to believe in anything spiritual?
If they don't like religion being talked about, my advice to them is to get off this forum and stop reading religious questions and answers. They should concentrate their efforts on the science forum, where they can try to explain why they believe in such absurd, unscientific notions as the spontaneous generation of life in the primordial soup, or the magic 'singularity' of the 'Big Bang' where nothing suddenly exploded and became everything!!!

As others have noted please do not lump all Christians or Muslims together. People will always use religion, politics, theories, philosophies for their own ends. It's not necessarily the beliefs that are wrong but their applicaiton and misuse (or even abuse)

Besides I often to say to people 'I am not religious, i am a Christian'. Why? Well, religions are man-made and are the results of peoples attempts to reach something higher than themselves. This is one reason for the recent surge in new-ageism, physics and fortune tellers etc. Christianity on the other hand is all about God's attempt to reach down to men and women through priests, prophets, kings, queens until finally He sent His only son Jesus Christ to die on the Cross in our place for our sin. Thus, Jesus says 'You did not chose me, I chose you' John 15;16. Thus we are then free to respond by faith to God's free offer of grace (Ephesians 2: 6-10) or are free to reject it and go our own way.

This is only my belief, so therefore, people are free to disagree, and I respect them for that. They can dismiss it in whatever way they like that's up to them. I think no less of them. All I ask is they respect my right to believe as well.

There are terms of service for this site and if you do things like harrass, use profanity, insult other participants and such, others are within their rights to report you. I dont know if you insult or harrass, just stating about the conditions.

It's a pain in the butt to be reported unjustifiably I know, I get reported a lot too and I dont think Im insulting (much) or profane ever. But I guess its a nessisary evil... there are enough trouble makers here already, Id hate to see it if there were no way to report them.

I never report anyone for having a different point of view. I do report name-calling and nasty personal insults. One can state their point of view without personal attacks on others. I do it all the time.

Muslims are wrong in my opinion. But I would defend to the death their right to practice their religion (short of murderous terrorists extremists) in peace. I do not believe Muslim women who choose to cover their face should be forced to take off their clothing, except in front of a female security officer in privacy. They can be searched, but there are ways to do this without violating their beliefs about modesty. If one individual is having their Constitutional rights violated, no one is safe.

Yet, I also believe that until the receive Jesus Christ as their savior, they are destined for Hell..... and I will express that belief.... because God loves them.... and so do I. They are merely deceived.

God Bless,

Sue

I accept that you have a right to disagree. God gave you that right. I will give a thumbs down for an answer I think is bad. I know the truth, and any answer that is false is a bad one. I've gotten plenty of "thumbs down" ratings from people who happen to disagree with me. It doesn't hurt my feelings because I know I'm right.

You are not required to love Jesus. But God help you if you don't.

"Contraveins" isn't a word.

Why are you putting all Christians and Muslims in the same category on this question? We do not all do this.... and besides we have just as much of a right to thumb down or up what we want. As do people who disagree have the right to answer whatever they choose regardless of how offensive it is. God Bless you.

I don't know why people give "thumbs down" ratings for a disagreeing viewpoint, unless the posted answer REALLY sucks. Then it has it coming!

Only abuse should be reported as abuse: profanity, crassness, etc. A disagreement is NOT abuse. Reporting it as such is passive agressive behaviour. THAT sucks.

We don't all do this, I hope you know.

Peace.

As a "hardened (??)" Catholic I never give thumbs down or report people for anything like that...even if I was to here a directly offensive joke or comment to Catholicism I still wouldn't.
