Actually, the Bible lists TWO lineages for Jesus. Both show Him to be of the lineage of David, as required in the Messianic prophecies in Psalms 132:11, Jeremiah 23:5 and 33:15, and Isaiah 11:10.
This was done to prove that BOTH of Jesus' parents (His mother, Mary and His supposed father, Joseph) met the prophesied requirements for Messiah. This is important because Jewish lineage is matrilineal (through the mother), while Roman and Greek lineages are patrilineal (through the father). No matter what the background of the researcher, the descent of David requirement is satisfied in the person of Jesus.

I'd say that's an excellent question; David was not a patrilineal ancestor of Jesus unless Joseph was the father. Since Christians contend that God was Jesus' father, then Jesus is not from the house of David - God does not have (or need) a house - and thus does not fulfill the prophecy regarding the Messiah. In my experience, however, Christians apparently seldom let a little thing like logic stand in their way.

Jesus is related to David through Mary, his mother. Joseph was chosen to be the father because he was a servant of God and a righteous man. The only person on earth that God could trust with his son was Joseph, however, an Angel told him to take care of Jesus for God and raise as his own.

My pal's boyfriend has pronounced this some together with her and me. He says that Matthew and Luke supply very distinctive statements approximately Joseph's ancestry or perhaps his father's call. He thinks that the unique tale substitute into that Jesus substitute into the son of Joseph and for this reason a descendant of David and ought to declare to be the Messiah, as many adult adult males did at that element. Paul pronounced no longer something related to the virgin beginning, so as that fluctuate into further later. It is mindless to grant Joseph's descent from David and record Jesus as though he substitute into area of that yet then say Jesus substitute into son of God, no longer Joseph. the two Luke and Matthew do this. i'm from Italy and alter into raised as a Catholic, yet i'm majoring in biology in college and have taken some classes in philosophy too, so i'm taking off to ask your self approximately some issues.

because whoever decided to retcon the bible this time screwed up.
Its funny someone should just do what dc does. They should have a major cross-over event to reconcile all the ambiguities in the bible. They can call it the "crisis of infinite mythology and folklore".
