I have a 03 R/T w/53,000 miles. Anytime I get on the gas (half throttle or more) from a stop, my truck sometimes seems confused on when to shift out of first gear, sometimes it shifts into 2nd but for the most part it sticks in first (runs up high on the rpm's 5,000+) until I let off the gas and then get back on it to shift to second. Is it a tranny problem or what would be a diagnosis?

This is a common problem with Dodge transmissions and has been for over 10 years. I would first check the recall list and see if your vehicle is listed, you can also check for class action law suits involving this transmission, even if you dont want to pursue the law suit as DCX hasnt actually harmed you in any way, it would be information to arm you against any insuing warranty issues now or in the future. If your vehicle/transmission isnt listed in any recalls or CA law suits you can still try taking it to the dealer, though the majority of people leave with the *unable to duplicate this issue* receipt in their hands. It is a known and very common issue with several dodge transmissions, including the one in my 06 charger (not only do i get the rough shifting but also the infamous steering drift) Dodge makes a beautiful car, with very few major issues, but the issues they do have really suck :( I hope this helps you and good luck, maybe Im wrong and it just needs a filter and tranny fluid change, do a bit of research then take it to the dealer for the tune up and run the tranny problem by him as a concern, hes probably seen quite a few bad transmissions from dodge and could better help you determine if yours is faulty as well :)

without knowing if it is a three speed or a four speed transmission it is a little hard to diagnose. You can manually retrieve trouble codes on Chrysler products by cycling the key on off on off on than count the flashes on the service soon light. 55 is end of test sequence. you will have to go to the service manual to determine the trouble code ,if any. This would be my advice first because most of the transmissions today are electronic.especially Chrysler. the control relies on various inputs to con troll shift quality.eg. temp. throttle position engine load etc. any of these inputs are out and shift quality can be delayed or harsh.Make sure these are all correct first.

It specific does sound like a comp is getting at a loss for words or a difficulty blunders sign and subsequently inflicting the transferring matters and as quickly as you restart the engine you're resetting the comp and it then starts to artwork lower back. desire that helps and better of success.via ways it does sound like the TCM=transmission module is going right into a limp mode=or risk-free mode simply by a minimum of something like a velocity sensor failer and that could purely furnish you with 2 emergency gears to run on iuntil it particularly is reset.I pretty recommend you get the transmission keep now not purely to furnish it a loose attempt stress diagnose yet additionally have them test the equipment bec their kit can test the equipment collectively because it particularly is being pushed and hit upon and point out the reason if it particularly is digital gadget alongside with a velocity sensor failer.do now not forget that there is a enter sensor and output sensor too.

yes is a transmission problem this is what you have to do
1-adjust the kickdown cable if that does'nt fix the problem
2-remove the transmission oil pan and filter and adjust the kick down band (clutch band for second gear ok? ) if instead of a band it has a solenoide replace it
3-the problem should be solved if you do what i just said if not your tranny needs an overhaul because it's not going to last you much longer
good luck JD.

Check your Transmission valve for proper operation. If not readjust it to factory specs. Buy a yourself a service manual for more information. Also check the fluid level and color. It should be a nice red and should be on the max line on the dip stick.

Sounds like you tranny is in need of an oil change. This should be done every 50,000 miles.
