A minimum of 64 oz a day, but more is better. Don't drink it all at once, though. Hyponatremia ("water intoxication" or "water poisoning") can occur, but only if a large quantity of water is consumed in a short amount of time. Spread it out throughout the day, and you can drink a gallon easily.

My personal trainer told me one ounce per two pounds. So, if you weighed 200 lbs, you would want to drink 100 ounces. (11 1/2 cups.)
