Get a spray bottle of water. When the bird gets loud say no and squirt him with water.

It needs attention.

Either make sure it is in an area where it can observe the family unit and feel a part of it or find it a friend. Usually they are noisiest when they are feeling neglected or lonely. They are extremely social, and they hate being put on the back burner (so to say). I would try a radio in the room if you need to be away, a mirror or even leaving the TV on for awhile.

Sometimes they will call out for you because they hear you nearby and are treating you as a lost member of the flock, they do this to locate you, so they don't feel abandoned.

As I said before they are social birds they live in large flocks of 100's and they feel alone easily. Move them to center of house activity or supplement them with a friend.

My female who is 22yrs old still calls for me, even though she has companions, she calls for my husband when she hears his truck pull up to the house, they are smarter than you think. My husband will hide in a room upstairs and yell out "can you hear me now?" and she and the others go nuts! it has become a game they play, because they know he is coming back, your bird may not think you are returning and may be in a panic mode!

good luck,
Tanya

Your bird does this for attention. All birds of this type need at least a couple of hours of human interaction daily. Also try buying some toys at the pet store designed for birds. You can drape a blanket over its cage and this will quiet it down but it will cause your bird distress and it will start plucking its feathers off. The only time you should cover its cage is at night.

If it has enough food and water, it's probably lonely. Cockatiels are social birds.
Here are some ideas:
Talk to it more.
Move it into the room where you are.
Move it into the room where people eat. They like see people eat.
Take it out and play with it.
Let it fly around the room for a few minutes.
Get it another cockatiel to share the cage with.
