I live in Dallas Tx and I heard on the news early this week that there was a twisted psychopath in my area who was caught by the SPCA officers because he allegedly cut 5 puppies heads off!!!! sick uh? well, the court sentenced him to ONLY 6 months in jail and a 1 year probation. my question is, do you think that is enough. I don't, I believe that he should of at least got sentenced to at least 20 years in prison or something and then be placed in a mental hospital because he isn't sane. I live near where he did this and I'm not happy with the outcome of his penalty at all!!! just because puppies can't fend for themselves and talk their lives aren't valued as well as ours! totally wrong!!! pups/kits are living breathing creatures who CAN feel pain just as much as we can. this twisted freak doesn't deserve 6 months and 1 year probation. what do you think? thanks for the answers in advance!!

You're right, an animal's life, although important, is not as valuable as a human in the eyes of the Criminal Justice System.

It is sad really, but if you look at the statistics, our jails and prisons are filled up with drug dealers (murderers, rapists, child molesters). Ever since the Drug War began, our jails have been overflowing with drug offenders. There is a lot of controversy over the Drug War because of it's effects on the Criminal Justice System. In my opinion, as much as I love my animals, I would much rather have another drug dealer, murderer, rapist, or child molester off the streets. It's unfair that animal cruelty receives a lesser sentence, but have you seen what fills our prisons and jails? Do you know how many people are sitting on death row for doing the same thing to humans?

I strongly believe in an "eye for an eye" myself. It's just not realistic though. Punishment has moved away from public floggings, stoning, and hangings partially because of Amendments 1-8 of the Constitution.

Edit, not only that, but overcrowded prisons leads to not enough staff for the amount of prisoners, cramped quarters, short supplies of necessities. All that added up leads to an aweful lot of problems that compound each other...and not just within the prison walls.

What are we to do?

I hear ya....
My mom lives in NJ and she called the police on her neighbors... they have a puppy farm and when they are finished with the dogs they tie them to the back of the propery and starve them to death.... and they don't even bother to bury them. Just let them rot.... well the last one was a 200 pound saint bernard. My mom say it dead and called 911.
She has been fight with her neighbors, even had to go to court and the people claimed my poor mother was posioning all the dogs!!!! The people were found guilty and got a $1,600 FINE and that was it!! Nothing!!
My mother was soo upset and went through all this trouble to do the right thing and the courts did nothing.
And yes, these people still are doing the same thing they have been.... 2 other dogs died this year.

I agree that person should at least be put in jail for a lot longer than six months because he could decide to turn to humans heads instead of dogs. He should at least be talked to about why he is doing this like theropy. And he should be put in a mental hospital. And im supprised he did it near you house. If you have a dog you should be happy it wasnt him/her whos head was cut off. Well this is my opinion. Okay.

The twilight books have been ok. i think of that the final 2 have been the greater effective ones. Twilight i examine an exceedingly very long term in the past and that i in no way even looked into the subsequent till my chum did with the aid of fact twilight is her worst e book, it is so slow contained in the initiating its no longer even humorous..... yet breaking daybreak is stable yet you may desire to think of approximately why she wrote it the way she did, she tried to thrill all of her followers... And the hype is stupid and stressful. Its basically a e book, i admire vampire novels and sequence yet this one have been given the main important hype for some atypical reason. My fave e book is The Host, its her superb e book by a approaches and that i might reccomend all of us to ascertain it. i attempted to ascertain a pair ann rice books and those are only rediculously slow... I cant take a seat and examine 5 pages describing how the water flowed or the moon gentle lit up the park. i propose come on!

Contact the city mayor, or state governor/legislator or any government representative, or the head of that court (I don't know that the correct term for that is) and tell them how outraged you are that the animal cruelty laws in your residence are so lenient. Encourage others to do the same!! Here are some websites offering tips on writing such letters:

I don't think this is nearly enough. I'm not sure if any amount of jail time would be enough to "reform" this person though. I would feel much better if the sentence were longer, the probationary period were longer, and if there was mandatory psychiatric care involved. This sort of senseless violence tends to escalate, and that is what terrifies me.

You are lucky they did anything at all. In most places it is not evn a crime to kill an animal if it is your and not a felony if it is someone else. There are a few cities they take this kind of thing as if it is important. If he had done it in New York he could have gotten 5 years.

I think it is terrible that someone would do such a nasty thing. But think about this, every day thousands of innocent unborn babies have their body parts ripped off & it it perfecty legal. How does a that make sense? Nobody is sentencing abortion doctors or mothers to jail time. Why would they care about a puppy?

Here in the USA we believe in the "after the fact method".they will do nothing serious to him until after he does it to 5 humans. People are killed by other people & warn the police in advance of it happening, but best you can hope for is a restraining order until after the fact of them being killed. 9/11 could have been stopped on 9/10. Katrina could have been avoided cuz a risk management group warned them months before, but they wanted to wait till after the fact. Do not let the governments, courts, police fool you. They are not out to prevent anything bad/crimes. They are out to enforce things after the fact.

I think it's ridiculous how bad the legal system is in regards to animal cruelty and the punishment these evil sickos get. I think it should be the same sentence for hurting or killing animals as it is for humans...and even that isn't close to enough.
