most of us are offended by the individuals--not the faith or religion, the people themselves--why can't you grasp that concept?

I am not an atheist, but I am married to one so I am somewhat qualified to answer. I don't think that it is faith that offends them as much as the idea the most religions think they are right and everyone else is wrong. No one likes to be told they are wrong by anybody, and that includes atheist, what they seem to forget is that they also have faith that no god exist and they also think that people who think differently then them are wrong.
This problem is compounded with Christianity, because many of us try and act like we are better then everyone else, when the truth is we are not any better . Without Christ you would be just as lost as the person you are witnessing to.

Actually, the concept of faith fascinates me. The fact that you think faith equals the belief in god offends me.
I have faith that the sun will rise and set each day; not because of god, but because the earth rotates on its axis.
When I was single, I had faith that I would eventually meet sombody that I wanted to marry; not because I thought god would make someone appear, but because I believe I am a good person and would eventualy meet another good person.
I just don't see why you feel "faith" is connected to god but, if someone doesn't believe in god that means they have no faith.

Well, I do believe in God, but I think I understand why people have a difficult time understanding the concept of faith.
Essentially, the whole argument surrounding God is a circular argument--to Christians (or people who believe in God in general), it's simple to understand: We believe in God because the Bible says that He exists. We believe in the Bible because God inspired it. In order to grasp that "divine inspiration," you need to have faith that God is capable of such feats. If you believe that God is capable of such a feat, then you probably also have faith that even though God isn't tangible, his existence can be seen through the Bible and other worldly events.
However, for people who don't believe in God, the idea of faith seems to be a ridiculous one because it's presence is rooted in God's existence. To someone who doesn't believe in that existence in the first place (nor any of the places that such a faith is derived), the idea of faith just doesn't make sense. It seems like a blind leap, and it DOES seem like an abandonment of reason and logic because they don't have the foundation that allows us to be able to have faith in God.

I am personally not offended by faith. Faith in myself and those I care about. I call it faith because even though I know myself and those whom I care for, does not mean that I or they cannot surprise or even dissapoint me. What offends me is the fact that you people think that you are right and absolute about your beliefs. That by itself would not be so bad(there are alot of narrow minded people in the world), But you and yours insist on telling everyone else that they are wrong in their beliefs. If your bible wasn't written by the hands of "MEN" it would have never been written at all. If you want to get to your god, fine, I may even encourage and help you if you need. (This is where we differ from each other, I can accept and even befriend people for people and not for belief. The offence is that you do not seem to realize is that we don't want to hear about you religion unless we ask.

The xian conception of god does not make sense at all. It's completely illogical to assume an omniptotent, omnibenevolent being is in charge of this planet.
Hence the requirement for "faith" and not logic.

I'm not offended by faith. Its the people who try and change me that offend!
And I dont want to get to God so why do I need to grasp that faith is needed?
Again, I dont want to know the mysteries of God.
And I'm sorry but God doesnt make any sense to me (my personal opinion).
Why are you talking to people who dont believe as if they want to believe but dont know how?

I believe you are confusing being offended by faith with being offended by people not thinking for themselves.
Quote:
Hence, the tragedy of so much of what's now happening on the Earth (e.g., the Middle East cancer), is a conflict between people who have sold their souls to an institutional religion. They have identified their lives with a set of abstract religious game rules. They have their "masters" and rule books and it never occurs to them that what they need is already hard wired into their being.
Such people relate to religion much as an infant relates to a breast. But they aren't infants, and the abstractions they kill for (in the name of God) aren't breasts.
What would our planet be like if all grown ups related directly to life without the arrogant intermediaries of institutional religion? Wouldn't it be like seeing the full, crystal sky without the blockage of clouds?

Pride is the mother of all sin and unbelief. Believing in God means that we must humble ourselves before the authority of another that is greater and we want to think of ourselves as the greatest!

we are not offended by the issue of faith (or at least im not), but what really offends me is when christians try to preach to me. Its not like as if atheists preach the word of "no god" to others (christians etc).
respect our "faith" and we'll respect yours.
If i really wanted to know about god etc. and/or be a christian, then i would be one.
let others decide for themselves!

If you want to believe in something, you have to throw logic out. How does that make sense that Christianity is logical? You are believing without question what is told by those without knowledge in things without parallel. Genius.
