A placebo?
It is a pill often used in place of real medication when conducting medical studies. This way each group of patient will be receiving medication but those receiving the placebo will only get sugar instead of the medication that is being tested. The purpose is to compare those taking the placebo (basically no medication) with those who are taking the real medication being tested. It is believed too that there is a psychological component to taking medication and a placebo can show how much of the patients' reaction is from their psychosis and from medication. Hope it helps!

it's a pill made up of sugar. Sometimes it is used in experiments as a placebo to see if people will react to it. For example, let's say I'm trying to see if this new medication helps cure measles. I'll have 2 groups (experimental and control). One group I'll give my new medication. The other group I'll give sugar pills. They both think they're getting my new medication. I'd then observe them and see what reactions I get out of both groups. This will then give me an idea of degree of effectiveness of my new pill versus the power of suggestion.

Some people believe they are sick and need drugs to "cure" them. So doctors will give them a sugar pill which is just sugar in the shape of a pill. They take them and get "better" believing the pill helped them.

The only medication within a sugar pill is sugar. (Not too good if your a diabetic) Also known as smart pills, but in the case of one incident, they turned out to be rabbit feces.

Placebo
People use it for experiments. It doesn't do anything. They are used to prove if the human mind makes someone sick, or if there is something actually physically wrong with them.
