Depends on if the neck breaks or not. The idea is to get the neck to snap, that's why gallows have a trap door.
The fall through the trap door is supposed to break the neck when the rope stops the fall. If that doesn't work, then it takes a while to die slowly of strangulation, maybe a minute, maybe longer. I don't know, never tried it, never watched, don't ever want to see it.

Good answers so more of "Logic's Logic"..A trap door is rigged so that the condems own weight causes he/she to trigger the mechanism. The weight is combined with the length of rope so the snap of the neck is exact. Too long a rope, it has been know to pull head from the body, or slam into the ground beneath the gallows. Too short and not enough snap to the rope to snap the neck. then the executioner must pull on the legs of the victim to finish the job. The "hangmen's knot" (13 loops) is part of the intricate design to make hanging clean and non cruel. The arms and legs are usually restrained to prevent flailing and kicking that may interfere with the weight distribution and interfere with the hanging.

Usually the neck breaks at the end of the drop and you're basicly dead then.
If not, it would take 2-4 minutes to lose consciousness and another 3-5 minutes to die.

Asfixiation does not cause death in most hangings. Before a hanging person can even take his/her first breath, the tension in the rope pulls the head in a certain way that it causes the dens of the axis (C2 vertebra) to break through the anterior arch of the atlas (C1 vertebra). The dens than severs the spinal chord, killing instantly.

IF YOUR NECK IS NOT BROKEN, it will take between 5-10 minutes (depending on your definition of death). You'll probably pass out after 2-3.

If your neck is broken, its almost instantaneous
