From Newquay in the West to Margate in the East it is roughly 675 miles (not following roads)
From The border with Scotland in the north to Waymouth in the south roughly 750 miles.

About 50,331 square miles. As a comparison Florida is 58,560 square miles. Good estimate from David H.
In square Kilometres England is 130,357. Florida is 151, 670.
The USA has an area of 3,618,772 square miles. (9,372,614 square kilometres.

Al's area is for the entire United Kingdom, not just England.

I can't be exact for England by itself, but the UK is 244,820 sq km

Also i once read that you're never further than 60 miles from the ocean in England.

England is small enough to put into lake Ontario and still be able to sail around it, but has a population of around 40 milllion I think. as the total of the UK is around 56 million people.
