It is called an Unbalanced system, some computers run fine, while other will crash! if yours is working fine don't worry!

The only problem that you would run into is when you first put the stick in. If it was able to boot up fine after you put the memory in then you are fine.
As far as speed what the other guy said is correct, the amount of memory increases but will be only as fast as the slower memory.

Its actually beneficial to have more RAM in a PC. Having 2 or more modules doesn't harm anything.

I believe you mean 256, not 275...anyway, that is perfectly fine. Just as long as they are the same speed because if one's faster than the other, it will go the speed of the slower one.
