I am a Christian, and two of the reasons I believe that Jesus is the Son of God are the eyewitness accounts of His miracles and resurrection, and the fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecies through Him.

What do you have that is reason-based that makes you believe in the Prophet's words? I ask with the greatest respect, and I look forward to well thought-out answers. Thank you!

Here are the reasons why I believe Muhammad PBUH was a prophet, and hence, why Islam to me is the truth.

1-Just as Jesus performed some miracles, so did Muhammad PBUH. There is not a miracle performed by previous prophets that Muhammad PBUH didn't do; not only this, but he even surpassed those miracles (he split the moon into two and reassambled it [there are traces of this on the moon now!], he revived the dead, cured the sick, predicted the future, even ascended to the heavens, made a tree speak and come to him, broke rocks by just touching them...). Of course, all of these miracles are only done by God's will, and not Muhammad's actual powers.

2-Please dont be offended by this, but while the Bible has been subject to many alterations (from misinterpretations, mistranslations, corrupt men...), the Qur'an has been preserved to the letter. How you might ask?
a- We have one of the oldest copies of the Qur'an that dates to 12 yrs after the Prophet's death - and that s only because previous copies have all been burned to make one official copy, of course after rigorous checking.
b- Second, the arabs at that time came from a background known for their memorization of poetry (it was like the media, back then, to them), geneologies, and legends. The whole Qur'an was memorized by a large majority of the Muslims, which helped cross-check and preserve any alterations that could have been made to the written copies.
c- Third, the Qur'an contains many scientific truths & predictions of the future which I will not go into detail. I'll just give you two examples: it says that God is still expanding the universe (which only recently has been proven to be true) and it states that the lowest part of the earth is at the Dead sea shore (which is also true! one would have to have checked the entire earth to guess this correctly). It is the numerous occurrences of such specifically worded truths that makes it only possible for the Qur'an to have been written by none other than God (mathematically speaking, there are more than 25 of these truths. so to be able to guess them correctly, one would have to have 1 in a 100 million chance of being right about every guess! (1/2)^25).
d- Muhammad PBUH was illiterate, and in fact, thats one of the reasons why he was called a mad man and a sorcerer. His people couldnt find an explanation as to how he could come up with this amazing Qur'an when he didnt even know how to read or write!
e- Finally, the Qur'an is a unique and unparalleled achievement of the arabic language. Even the most fluent poets of 7th century arabia failed to duplicate just one single chapter (just 3 verses!), and mind you, they were masters of their language! That's what they took pride in, but they were dumbfounded by the beautiful verses of the Qur'an, so much that even the disbelievers who persecuted the Muslims during the day, would creep at night, hiding, ashamed of being seen by one another, just to listen to Muslims reciting the Qur'an.

3-The character of prophet Muhammad PBUH is the greatest proof. There are just so many delightful stories about him; unfortunately, they have been overshadowed by non-Muslims' uninformed comments about his actions. Demonstrating Muhammad's excellent character to you would just take forever, so i guess this will have to do. The fact that outsiders keep on misinterpreting and altering things about Islam strengthens my faith all the more, for i have yet to see something which I have not been able to answer (for myself at least). and that's thanks to God

4- THIS POINT YOU DO NOT HAVE TO READ IF YOUR QUESTION ONLY SOUGHT A JUSTIFICATION BASED ON ISLAM ITSELF, NOT ISLAM COMPARED TO OTHER RELIGIONS.

Again, no offense, but Islam, to me, seems the most logical religion when compared with Judaism and Christianity. Since you're a Christian, i'll just state, respectfully, the major things I disagree with regarding your faith.

a- The Trinity (doesnt make sense to me, I think you can understand why, so I won't elaborate on that)

b- God having a son. First, I believe God is far above having a son, no matter how pious or great this son may be. If God is perfect - which He is - than this would prevent Him from having a son. Second, granted this idea of Jesus sacrificing himself to save mankind is very noble, but why would God need to let His son die to forgive mankind, when He is the Lord of Mercy, the Great Forgiver? How come Jesus was never worshipped by his followers? Why did previous prophets not tell their people about God sending His son? Also, the idea of Jesus dying for the sins of mankind completely de-values the concept of a free will. In other words, it removes personal accountability over one’s own actions. If the mere fact of believing that Jesus was the son of God is what grants humans salvation, regardless of one’s deeds, then there would have been no reason for God to grant humans free will. This notion not only prevents God from being able to give humans a fair judgement on the Day of Reckoning, but it seems somewhat inconsistent: would you give a raise to an employee – who has done a bad job – for something that someone else did?

c-the idea of all non-Christians going to Hell just because they dont believe that Jesus was the son of God, when you have people who worship God alone, doesnt sit right with me. First, because there are good people who devote themselves to God other than Christians. Second because the Trinity also makes Jesus son AND Father. So I dont see how non-Christians worshipping God alone is not sufficient, when technically, according to the Trinity, worshipping God is also worshipping Jesus. So shouldnt this grant others salvation too?

Peace be with you (sorry for the long answer)

In another place Muhammad put the following words in the mouth of Allah:

And those who disbelieve say: Why has not a sign been sent down upon him from his Lord? You are only a warner. Q. 13: 07

Muhammad insisted that even though other prophets had miracles, his only miracle is the Quran. So when Muslims claim that Muhammad performed miracles, they are going against the Quran itself.
One can find numerous discrepancies, inconsistencies, contradictions, scientific errors, full of redundancies, lack of any chronology etc throughout the entire Qur’an.

As for Josephus, his writings were decades after the alleged death of Jesus... his testimony is no better than hearsay, being tertiary at best. But as for why Muslims would accept the Koran... basically, the same reasons Christians accept the New Testament, even though the Jewish scriptures say the scriptures would never be changed or added to. Religions branch out of each other... there are trends, one group goes off interpreting things differently, finding new scriptures that spiritually inspire them, believing some new thing and bam, you have a new religion.

You have not seen miracles of Jesus (pubh) with your own eyes. Your read your Holy Book and believed it. I am not going to give evidence (SFNDX & the other guys gave U more details), I will simply say that I believe in my Holy Book just as you believed in yours.
My Holy Book is the words of God/Allah. Allah said to Mohammed (pbuh): "You are of great morals". Can you imagine what does it mean for the Creator to tell a person such a thing?
Thank you for asking with great respect, I wish the rest were like you.

1. He is in the holy book, Quran.
God has stated in the holy book that there will be a prophet who will seal the prophethood.
2. There were eyewitnesses of some of his miracles and the way he lived that were collected in books called "Hadiths"
3. His predicaments about the end times and the future which were recorded in Hadiths that come to have passed in current times.

As you said, the eyewitness of Muhammed's miracles (pbuh). And the Quran which is a miracle by itself. I'm not the best person to explain why the Quran is considered miracle unlike the other 2 book (Gospel & Turah), but you can google it.

Prophet Muhammad(pbuh) was known as Al-Sıddıq (trustful person) even from non believers. And it was his nickname among the people who know him. Isnt it an enough reason to believe him?? Also his miracles and lifestyle are the evidence of his existence as a prophet.

When they listen to that which hath been revealed unto the messengers, thou seest their eyes overflow with tears because of their recognition of the Truth. They say: Our Lord, we believe. Inscribe us as among the witnesses. - 005.083

Allah hath (now) revealed the fairest of statements, a Scripture consistent, (wherein promises of reward are) paired (with threats of punishment), whereat doth creep the flesh of those who fear their Lord, so that their flesh and their hearts soften to Allah's reminder. Such is Allah's guidance, wherewith He guideth whom He will. And him whom Allah sendeth astray, for him there is no guide. -039.023
