You specifically asked the following:
However, if I was to become Mormon, would my eternal salvation be at risk according to other Christians?
The Bible teaches that salvation come to us through our faith in Jesus because of the work He did on our behalf. If you go about trying to earn your own salvation you are telling God that His work was not good enough for you. That is getting close to blasphemy... You can't be saved (Born Again) though anything else but faith in Christ.... Jim

Convince me why I should become Mormon?
I cannot. The only reason anyone should convert to Mormonism is if they feel the Spirit of God bear witness that it is true. That is something I cannot do for you, but I would encourage you to study the teachings of the Church, read the scriptures, and pray that God would help you to know whether or not it is true. If anyone is going to convince you to join the Church, it is going to be God.
Would my eternal salvation be at risk according to other Christians?
Probably. But what does it matter? If God convinces you that the Church is true, then it does not matter what other Christians think. Besides, they often say that all you have to do is believe in Jesus and his eternal grace is enough to save you. If that is the case, then Mormons will also be saved (because they also believe in Jesus and also believe that without the grace of God it would be impossible to return to His presence). If the Mormons are guilty of performing a few good works because they believe they should, is that a good reason to send them to hell?
Do the pros of Mormonism outweigh the cons?
I suppose this is really for you to decide, because everyone else's answer will be biased. It also depends on what you consider to be pros and cons. Mormons are expected to keep more commandments of God than most people. But keeping the commandments also brings blessings and happiness.

Only the Holy Ghost can convince you to become a Mormon. I am a convert to the church, but it was not a missionary, member, or any other logical reason that led me to accept the Gospel of Jesus Christ. While they may have presented a message, it was the Holy Ghost who actually witnessed to me of the truthfulness of the doctrine they were teachings.
If you truly want to know if you should join the church, I suggest the following: 1. Continue to read the scriptures and pray about them, including the Book of Mormon. 2. Live by the teachings found within the scriptures and taught by the church to see what fruits they bear. 3. Pray to God and ask him if you should follow Chirst's example by pursuing baptism into the church. 4. When you feel the promptings of the Holy Ghost, act on them.
Once you have done this, then your faith will truly be built on a solid foundation. It will not matter what anyone says, because you will know that you have done God will.
If, along the way, you have any doctrinal questions, I would be more than happy to try to answer anything for you. Until then, God bless you in your endeavor.

I'm LDS, a convert of 13 years standing. Previously I was an evangelical Christian. According to the mainstream Christian definition of what you must do to be saved, you would be perfectly fine as a Mormon - although many reading this will not agree because they don't understand our beliefs.
Christians say that to be saved you have to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and accept his sacrifice as atonement for your sins. You have to repent and give your life to him, and follow him. This is what I did when I became a Christian at the age of 15.
This is exactly what the LDS missionaries ask potential converts to do. They outline four principles - Faith, Repentance, Baptism and the Gift of the Holy Ghost. What they offer is for investigators to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, accept his sacrifice as atonement for their sins, repent and give their lives to him, and follow him. Once they have done so, and been interviewed to ensure that they have taken this step, they can be baptised.
So as I see it, whether other Christians understand it or not, as a Mormon I am saved. I was saved at 15 and I did not renounce Christ when I was baptised into the LDS church - quite the opposite.
Evangelicals may object because they think we believe in salvation through works (we don't) or a "different Jesus" (utter nonsense). But you can rest assured that the pros of being Mormon far outweigh the cons. I've been both, so take it from me.

I see you say that you may remove this question if you don't get any serious answers. One of the reasons that you wont get many answers is you have applied constraints to this question that make it unlikely you will get an answer.
I am not about to persuade you to join the Mormon church. Joseph Smith is a false prophet and disobeyed God's command given in the first vision. Contrary to God's command, Joseph joined a church in New York. He was a member only for a few days (Sunday to Wednesday I believe. The detailed information is available from Berean Christian Ministries bccmmin.org or from Mormon Research mrm.org) The minister confronted Joseph about his "glass looking" charge that he was found guilty of and asked him to repent of that. Joseph would not and withdrew his membership from the church.
If you were to become a Mormon, I would believe your eternal salvation could be at risk. Salvation is God's business and the evidence we have suggests this to be true. If you ask about evidence for that, have a look in Hebrews chapters 4-9

Mormons do not try to convince others of their religion. Rather, they invite you to gain a testimony of it by answering your questions, but ultimately inviting you to come to church yourself, read from the book of mormon, and pray about it. If someone can talk you into a religion, it is just as easy for the next person to talk you out of it. That is why gaining your own knowledge and testimony is so important. I served a two year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons)

The pros of mormonisim don't outweigh the odds.Whether you believe it or not your eternal salvation would be at risk especially if you aren't saved now. That doesn't mean you won't become saved but you know god already knows all about that.Whether you accept him or not is your choice if you haven't confesssed with your mouth & believe in your heart that christ died for your sins, saved you from satan & a life of sin & was raised from the dead by god, reigning at the right hand of the father.then if you aren't saved now if you do confess with your mouth & believe in your heart truly then you'll defintely be saved ! Put your faith in god & his word totally. It doesn't mean that you can't trust godly people but there are some people that don't depend on any person for everything.God is the source of all goodness & If you haven't trusted him to be your heavenly father & so much more you still can! I prayed that god saves you if you aren't saved currently & shows you his great love & transforms your life according to his will. God bless & Thank you too.

"However, if I was to become Mormon, would my eternal salvation be at risk according to other Christians? "
According to other Christians? Forget other Christians - many are confused on their own - instead ask if your salvation would be at risk according to the truth. If the bible is truth - and I am betting my life it is - then no, your salvation wouldn't be at risk. it would be in peril; it wouldn't happen.
The Mormons believe in Jesus and God the Father etc. However, dig a LITTLE deeper and ask them about their god. If you push, they will tell you that Jesus is God, and will admit Jesus is A god. And with a teeny bit of further questioning they will admit that He is a god and the only god with whom will will have any worship.
Then ask - if He is A god, how many gods are there. The insertion of the indefinite article "a" suggests/implies/states that there are more than one god. In the bible (the Mormons believe the bible is the third most reliable source behind Book of Mormon and Pear of Great Price, insofar as it is correctly translated) God said He is a jealous God and there is not other God except Him, He didn't say there are no other gods you will have anything to do with except me - He said He is the ONLY God there is.
So, from here you have to make a choice - is my salvation provided by one of the gods out there (the only one working with us) or is it provided by the ONLY creator, redeemer God Almighty?
There is soooo much more information out there to know and understand but hopefully this will help get you started in the right direction. They say that our god is the only god we will have anything to do with, they don't know how many gods are out there - go ask them, pin them down on this hugely important point. Get a final answer. The God in the Holy Bible says that He is the ONLY God out there and He won't tolerate playing with the idea of other gods. If you deny His absolute sovereignty over all that exists you will not go to heaven.
Sure the bible says believe in Jesus and you will be saved (Romans 10:9, 10) but you have to believe in the CORRECT idea of WHO and WHAT Jesus is. There are many Hispanic guys named Jesus; you don't get saved by believing in them.

People can only discuss the principles of the Church. The Holy Ghost does the convincing.
How would loving God put your salvation at risk? Jesus said the any one who gives you a drink of water in my name shall not lose his reward.
One man's pros are another man's cons. Are you prepared to stand for something? To work for others? To sacrifice?
Is it worth it? As it says in Revelations, He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.
