well it could be that it's just a sick kat, and wants attention, or it's just a grumpy kitten, like some cats r.

the best of luck!

It could be one of two reasons:

1. It is so happy to get the food. It is showing her gratitude to you for having fed her.

2. If she growls when you pet her while she is eating, you are disturbing her. She is afraid that it will be taken away and warns you that it is her domain and tells you to stay away. This is animal instinct. When it comes to their food, everyone is an enemy.

Now, you got to figure out which is which. You know your cat's behaviour better. With small experimentation you can get the answer to either of the 2 above possibilities.

Often times when a cat growls when eating it could signify that she wants the food, and that everyone should saty away. Sometimes though, a cat is hungry, and much like a human, will make grumbleing a growling signs when he or she eats.

He loves his food and expresses it through growling. My black cat Jinxy did the same thing as a young sweet kitten. It's the same reason humans, say "yummy" when we eat our food. This is pretty normal for your pretty kitty.

I had three little foster kitties together and they would put their paws around a serving of food and growl when they were eating.

It's sort of an instinctive thing with wild cats and she is carrying it into her present life though her food supply isn't threatened in any way.

Your cat is posessed by the devil. You must call a priest immediately. I'm KIDDING! Are you sure it's a growl and not a purr? I'm more of a "DOG-GUY" but I know some cats sound like a diesel engine running while they're eating something they enjoy.

It-s like a very loud purring. An extreme contentment.

Oh, I LOVE when kittens do this - she's warning you, or any other animals, that it is HER food and you had better stay away!

They do it when they really like the food. It's a way to say: "It's mine! Don't touch it!!" I find it very cute when they do this!
