Is it like the Roman gods religion, as one set of people might have a statue of one god in their town and focus on that one god, and have certain rituals and beliefs.

While in the opposite side of the Roman empire another village would worship another god and call other gods more often and focus on different rituals.

Bon is very little understood in the West. What little I have read indicates a lot of cross-influence from Buddhism. It seems (I am not an expert) that many Bon followers do worship the god or goddess of a local lake, mountain, or other regional feature. I would assume that such worship is non-exclusive - they would also acknowledge the existence of other deities, just have a special devotion to the local one.

What you describe is true of Hinduism - villages or even families will have a devotion to Krishna or Ganesh or some other god and concentrate most of their devotion on that one diety, while not denying the existence of all the others. I suspect that such things happen in most, if not all, polytheistic religions.

Bon is fascinating, but solid information is hard to come by. Do a google search on bon +tibet and you will find a few sources of information, including a book on Amazon that I have not yet seen so cannot recommend, but it might be worth getting.

Hadn't heard of Bon, but what others are describing is true in Catholism too. Only instead of different gods, Catholics pay special reverence to one saint or another. It is not just local that makes the difference, often it is occupation or activity that calls for special attention to paid to one enity over another.

Just accept Christ as your Savior and you will not need to worry about false religions
