he preached on the 10 commandments. i had lost my bicycle two days before (friday night). when he got to the part about adultery, i suddenly remembered where i left my bike. so you see, it really pays to go to church. May God bless you and have a happy thanksgiving.

We call them homilies rather than sermons - a more humble kind of preaching that is derived from the readings of the lectionary, and not what the pastor wants to personally talk about.
It started out about eschatology (last things), since the gospel this last Sunday was Mark 13:24-32. But he also tied in first things as well, since in many ways the end is a beginning of sorts as well.

Well, I'm an atheist but last Friday I went to visit a Reform Judiasm Synagogue. The readings were about Rebecca and how she was so ready and willing to serve without hesitation, that she volunteered to do far more than simple courtesy would have required of her. She was a good example of generosity and hospitality. The rabbi's talk emphasized this aspect of her life.

Since the Gospel Lesson was on Christ's saying: "Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesars"....etc. - I preached on why the separation of church and state is a good idea....because I don't want the State to tell me what I can preach about...
Specifically, it was about signing petitions, supporting candidates, "getting out the vote" drives and the like (all of which I oppose)...
Then - more specifically....it was about the Church's traditional stand on abortion being murder...
