I agree with you.
You try to be pleasant and they walk by like you are a nut.
Once I got fed up and after saying hello and the person just walked be, I said " well hello to you too, nice day we are having huh, Yes it is,. Speaking and answering myself showed her how rude she had been and made her smile.,
And A few people thought I was plain nuts lol lol lol

Society has changed. Its more about gettin' where ya wanna go instead of taking the time to acknowledge someone with a simple hello. I do it all the time, mostly because in my job, its a requirement to say hello to EVERYONE. But it goes for when Im not working too since I see that my light mood can lighten someone elses'.

Well, it might have something to do with being in a hospital setting. If you are saying hello to hospital staff (they may have something else on their mind). If you are saying hello to visitors (they maybe too wrapped up in what brought them to the hospital in the first place.)
I am sorry this is happening to you, but don't let it change the things you do or say...keep up the friendly attitude!

It's because people don't trust each other anymore, unfortunately. Even if the other party isn't carrying a gun or wielding a stash of dope hidden somewhere in their clothing, many people assume the worst in others. I remember saying hello to a guy walking past me one day. His wife then proceded to chew me out, accusing me of trying to steal her man. After enough experiences like that, people just are too afraid to say anything to others anymore. (Either that or people are tired of giving greetings without any gain in return.)

For whatever reason, people in different areas are not as friendly as in other areas. I am from the south and in the south everybody speaks, whether they know you or not. But then I moved up north and saw that nobody speaks! The world has changed so much too.....people don't have the same values in life that they used to have.

I've noticed that every time I go to the gym, if I pass by an older person, they'll say hi, but young people don't do that as much. This makes me think that maybe it's a generational thing. Maybe people aren't being taught by their parents to say hi anymore, so they are surprised by it.

People are usually too wrapped into themselves to notice that there are other people around them. I've been caught off guard by someone saying hello as they pass by.

People just aren't nice anymore. Only because every time a person turns around, someone who seems nice is trying to screw them in one way or another. Not that you are, that is just why I'm not nice anymore.
