I've been in a bit of a funk lately: crabby, moody, and lazy. I'm looking for suggestions on what other people do to cheer themselves up. What improves your mood?

Please don't recommend meds.

Believe it or not....Nature.

If things get tough just take a step back and look at all that is around you. Breathe in the beauty of everyday life that surrounds you, the flowers, a blade of grass, a large oak tree, a lake, a stream, the ocean, the mountains, a leaf, the clouds, the sun, the moon, the stars, a pine cone, a rainbow, and so many other things too numerous to mention. You ARE a part of the large picture. Keep in mind "don't sweat the small stuff" and ultimately in large scheme of things "EVERYTHING is small stuff".

This will put all into perspective.

When Fall rolls around and most days are grey I tend to get into the same kind of funk. The one thing that I have found that helps cheer me up is tanning. There is something about the exposure to sunlight that naturally boosts your mood. I know it's not good for you, so you might want to use sunscreen to avoid the dangers, but it will perk you up a bit.

I suffer from depression. The trick to this is figuring out what set it off. Once I figure it out (IE stress from job) I try and change my perspective. Like at least I have one. Or it could be a worse job. Or even better, I remember the first job I ever had plus my salary and compare the two. Once I find the positives, that usually gets me in a better mood. Mood is a choice.

If/when I'm home alone and I'm bored and have nothing to do...I either, sleep, watch TV, go online, read a good book, draw pictures, chat with my friends/cousins, or (don't laugh) dress up to lip-sing and dance to my favorite songs and sometimes I'll videotape myself with my cam-corder. (Ok, you can laugh) It's fun to watch myself be a different person on TV. Ofcoarse, I'm the only one watching it. But if I'm proud of my performance, I'll show it to my friends and family and they'll say, "Hey, that's not you. You should become an actress/singer or something." That definately cheers me up. I know I can't sing, but it's fun trying. I have a karoake machine that I also use when nobody's home. That's fun, too. Depending if you love music and singing.
Find something you'll like to do and just do it. As long as you're not hurting yourself and others in anyway possible. Think of something funny and just laugh. You need to laugh, it definately helps.

Take a trip. A long drive, a stay at a cabin or just an outing to the beach normally helps me. Its always good to do something out of the norm.

When I get down, I grab pen and paper and write down everything that's bothering me. Then I brainstorm different ways to overcome each of those problems. Then I put a "due date" next to each one and... voila! A list of goals! Then I do whatever it takes to reach those goals by the due date. It's a great feeling.

I'd say you are responsible for your own being. Quit playing the "poor me" victim role and take initiative and go and do something, perhaps helping others less fortunate than yourself. You gotta make it happen, it's not going to magically happen. You have certain gifts, use them often they provide a feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction.Hope you come out of it.
