its just a treat for her. she hates her normal dry food, so i try to make it tastier for her. i used to mix it wet kitten food. but she was rescued from the streets. so the vet is giving me a really expensive dry kitten food. and so is the wet one. can i serve her shredded boiled fish with the dry kitten food? is it bad for her?

yes white fish is the best. canned tuna in excessive amounts or for kittens can make them very sick, something about causing liver problems. also make sure if you mop your floor with a swiffer wet jet you rinse it well afterwards. there is a problem with the chemical making cats and dogs sick. for some reason they love the taste of the stuff but it has something similar in it to anti-freeze and it will make the animal very sick and in some cases die.

Fish really isn't good for cats and kittens and a little won't harm her. If you would like to know more about fish and cats, go to www.littlebigcat.com and read Dr. Jean Hovfe's article titled "Why Fish is Dangerous for Cats". The articles are in alphabetical order so it is at the end. Right close by is another titled "Why Cats Need Canned Food" and back a little another "Selecting a Good Commercial Pet Food".

Dry food is not the best choice either - a mix of canned and dry would be better to get her used to. She is probably getting some form of Scienc Diet from the vet - that's the most expensive POOR quality food you can buy.

No, a little bit of fish every now and then is not bad for your kitten. Just don't make it a substantial part of her diet. The majority of her intake should be a complete and balanced commercial food. There are many, many brands of kitten food on the market. If she doesn't like the first one you tried, go out and get another. Just try to stay away from the "grocery store" brands like Friskies, Meow Mix, Kitten Chow, etc. The premium brands may seem more expensive, but they are more calorie and nutrient dense, which means you don't have to feed as much! In the end, the price evens out! Try Science Diet, Nutro, Eukanuba, Royal Canin or any of the other good foods on the market. I recommend a combination of both dry and canned food, as cats do not drink enough to make up for the lack of moisture in a dry-food only diet.

Good luck!

No, it's not ok to give your wee kitten fish because at 4 weeks the wee kitty should be on mother's milk (tinned) from the pet shop and at 8 weeks kitty should be weaned off the milk and drinking only water as normal milk is not good for it, Fish in brine or oil will give your kitty the runs then that will be a problem plus kitty isn't getting any vitamins etc. You need to buy proper wet kitten food also you need to buy dry food I buy only Royal Canine Kitten 36 it is expensive but should last you 57 days I buy 4kg which works out cheaper (31,- euro), that way you know your wee kitty is healthy.

Boiled fish isn't bad for the kitten and is ok as an occasional treat. I don't recommend you giving it to her on a regular basis as part of her dinner because she will come to expect it then won't eat her dinner without it.

When my kitten was sick and not eating at all, I tried to entice her with a little baby food mixed in with her regular. It was the chicken baby food (Stage 1 baby food - make sure the only ingredients in it is chicken/chicken broth - NO onions or garlic as that can be poisonous to kittens).

Why not switch to a premium high-quality kitten food? My cat loves Nutro Natural Choice. It is guaranteed, if cat doesnt' like it, you get a refund. Find a premium food that contains no by-products at a pet store. It contains higher quality protein than what the vet is giving you for sure.

It shouldn't hurt her at all, as long as the fish is fresh and well cooked...I have given my kitten the "nutrtional cat milk" they have in the pet food aisle at the grocery store, she really did like that...she was a "barn cat" that was given to us and her digestive system was not up to par when we got her...with some premium pet food and this nutritional milk, she is now a healthy 2 month old..

Tuna, mackerel, cod, salmon, herring, snapper and others contain Mercury and is very bad, especially for kittens and cats.

I would advise only giving it to her once a month, or not at all. She may get very used to it and want more.
