My mom is a fan of #6 Mark Martin but he's been a fluke since he hasn't won much for the past few years so my mom "switched" loyalties to #17 Mark Kenseth.
Why hasn't Mark Martin been performing well?

he's old and needs to retire like he was supposed to.......your mom didnt necessarily "switched loyalties" since #17 is on the same team as Martin

I think the up and coming younger guys, the younger stronger pit crews and the invested money, along with the big sponsers has gone to those more noted racing teams. Seems that when you hit a long plateau no matter what age you are, NASCAR and some of the unloyal fans kick you to the curb. Martin is still a great driver and is proving that in the Truck series. Plus, I think J. Roush has put Martin farther back on the back burner a little bit each year, hence his semi retirement. But, then again Martin's interests maybe changing and feels as though it's time to spend more of his on time, with family and other projects.

You do know this is Mark's last year right. And you do realize you can't always win right. You do realize all greats go thru bad times, you can't always be top. Personally i think Mark, considering his age and how long he's been in racing compared to some of the others of his age and year in racing...i'd say he's done damn good, after all, he's been in the chase both years....top 10 points......u call that a fluke?
and im sorry, but your mom, in my opinion,isn't a true fan if she switches drivers just b/c he's not currently winning LOL....wow....she must switch drivers every year. For example...Carl Edwards and Ryan Newman, in the top last year, having a crappy season this year compared to that....it happens to everybody.
and QT.....what nascar world are you living in? since when does Jack not have good cars? and Kenseth didn't win b/c he simply didn't win......wow, that' doesn't mean they have bad cars, i guess you think every single person that didn't win the championship (which includes everybody except Jimmie) has bad cars.
lol @ some people thinking certain ppl should just simply win everything, and if they don't then something must be terribly wrong.....lol.....im sorry i dont mean to sound rude about it but come on....this is just ridiculous

I just think his day has passed and the younger drivers are getting a bit more skilled. I think he should have retired last year but that's just my opinion. At least he made the chase this year so I guess his "semi-retirement" is starting on a positive note.

Because he is past his prime. Don't get me wrong ... Mark is still a very good driver, but there are just better drivers these days.
It doesn't help any that he drives a Ford ... sorry, had to throw that out there.

you can only do as good as the equipment they give you, plus his crew has lost alot of races for him, A true fan doesn't leave because of a bad season, after all he does make the chase every year!

the quality of the cars jack roush is putting out is not as good as in the past. just look at the rest of his drivers same for them also not many wins. i plead my case if not the car why didn't kennesth win championship. case closed.

i have no idea.im a nascar fan and my favorite driver is darrell waltrip(retired)but my favorite driver is ryan newman.im figuring out why isnt he runnning that good.
