Hi, there was a time span between the Ascension of the Lord into heaven and the Roman murdering of the Christians in the coliseum so these Christians may not have seen Jesus directly, but how powerful was their faith in the Teaching of the Apostles to have gone so willingly to their death, and don`t forget that the Apostles willingly gave their lives too for Jesus and still modern people doubt the reality of the living Christ.

Booooooooooooooo for answering your own question. I concur with the first post.

Actually, most of the parables concerning "being thrown to the lions" happened in the Old Testament, long before Jesus came on the scene in the New Testament.

So it is claimed. But I don't know that these stories are true, nor that the original Apostles even existed. There's no independent evidence that they did. I DO know that Christianity caught on among Gentiles away from Jerusalem who never could have met Jesus in life, but it didn't catch on among Jews who presumably had the opportunity. I think they knew better. The whole Jesus story is just a Jewish reworking oif the old Mystery Culot religion anyway.

So, why did the heatens allow themselves to be killed, burned alive, etc., during the crusades? Maybe they are right!

Dying for a cause proves nothing. Just means that it means a lot to you. Doesn't make the cause anymore correct - the Heaven's Gate Cult died to ride on a rocketship behind a comet. I'm pretty sure we can agree they didn't make it.

You just answered your own questions.

However, you have to realize that Jesus wasn't the first of his kind to be announced as the son of God. The Jews KNEW that God would send down the Messiah, they just didn't know whom.

Others came before him--they preaced peace, war, etc. You name it. What seperates Jesus is that he WAS the real deal; he DID heal the sick and make the blind see.

I really do not think they allowed themselves to be thrown to the lions.
They were forced under threat of death from ignorant guards.

I would have chosen the lions too.

Are you kidding? Can you imagine the living conditions of the common folk in those days? It was probably more fun than suicide.
