We are getting ready to move and we can take our cat with us but we would have to pay an extra fee each month which we want afford. We already signed our lease and now we have to find a place for our cat which I really dont want to do. We want to give him to a family but if we cant is there any other options other than a shelter? I DO NOT want to do that so I need some ideas.

I would keep your cat. Would you give a child away if you needed to pay an extra fee? A cat is a part of the family snd I would find a way to cut back on one of my monthly expenses to pay for her. Go through your expenses (food, take-out, entertainment) and see where you can cut back. Your cat will be lost without you if you give it away. I could never do this. NOT if you really loved your cat.

Just remember that your kitty is a life form with feelings. I worked at a shelter and some cats have difficulty adapting to the environment, but some don't. Cats can remain in s single cage that is a little bigger than a large microwave all day. They usually get one meal a day which is plenty because there is no room to spend energy. Sometimes they get lucky and are put in a free range room. That's the life. Cats are long term commitments, almost like children. One thing you can do is put up a posting on Craig's list. Its free and you can post a picture. It may take some time because people usually want kittens, but you may get lucky.

You will feel so sad giving away your cat to a family or shelter especially, believe me, you will regret it.

If you can, borrow the fee from a family member or friend. Otherwise, put it on your Visa and just cut down on some other extras.

How about cutting down on Xmas presents this year and let everyone know the reason, you love your cat and would feel such a loss it you didn't have him. He comes first.

Some humane societies (mine does) offer a rehoming service. Go to your local humane society website or call them to see if yours offers this. You place your cat with pictures and a description on the humane society website for other people in the community to consider for adoption. It helps if you have pictures - people want to see the cat before they decide to adopt. You should give as much detail as you can about the kitty and also say why to have to rehome it. You get to choose the adoptive parents and I would recommend charging a small fee so that someone doesn't take your cat and sell it to an animal researcher.

PS: Here is the website for my county if you need more details.

do you have a friend? Or you could put an add in the newspaper for a fee - of course (becaause u nvr know what ppl might do with a free cat) and you could even go to the person`s house to see and make sure the person will take care of the kitty ....

get on the internet and see if you can find a boarding house for pets while your gone. if possible, they will feed and water and care for your cat till you get back. its a boarding house not a shelter, or check with your favorite vet to see if they know of such a place in your town

In college our landlord only allowed pets if you paid extra money too, and being broke college students we didn't want to do that... a cat is so easy to keep quiet, there not messy, and they are content.. we kept our cat in our house all through college and our landlord never knew.. I mean think about it really hard.. how long have you had your kitty.. do you really really want to get rid of it? what your landlord doesnt know wont hurt :).

I think you should try to find a way to keep your cat and bring he or she with you,or post your cat on line as a classified ad free to a good home.

where do you live... I have attached a website with a list of no kill shelters for all states. Please, if you must take your cat to a shelter, take it to one of these... otherwise there is a great chance that it will be put down or more acurately... Killed.
