If you do not want some one to know your secrets, then do not publish them, nor tell them to others, it is as simple as that, also from the sounds of it you do appear to have serious problems so perhaps your mom sought the only way she could to get you the help you need, the other problem with diary is they are some times more day dreams and what if scenarios rather than the truth.,as for what should you do , perhaps if you are up front and totally honest with her she may treat you differently, as for right now she is taking your diary as the truth and is getting you help accordingly.as she see it

Sweetie, your mom definitely violated your privacy but please know that she did so because she is concerned.
When my eldest son was 13, my ex and I read his journal. The reason I did it was because he was having trouble at school and he would always say nothing was wrong. He was very smart, articulate, always an "A" student and when adolescence began, he sort of turned into this little monster with secrets. No matter what we did to talk to him about his behavior, he would always say nothing was bothering him.
I really wish I had never read his journal because there were lots of secrets in there I never thought could be going on in his life. I did not find out the source of his troubles, either. Talk about opening Pandora's box! But I wanted to help him. Two years earlier, we'd had a son and had to take him off life support and didn't realize this had affected our oldest son. Later, in therapy, we learned it had bothered him greatly.
The fact that you cut yourself is definitely cause for concern. So please do not be upset with your mom. She really loves you and wants the best for you. When you feel like it, perhaps you can talk to your mom and let her know how you feel. She will understand it. My son was very upset that we read his journal and I did promise never to do it again (and I never did). But it helped bridge the gap of communication between us.
The best of luck to you, sweetie.

I think diaries are really made for parents. To check on what you're going through. Some parents can be discreet and respectful about it. Some just want to make sure you're doing OK. Maybe you acted a certain way that "made" them check up on you because they worry about you.
Unfortunately some parents use it to control you. Which sux. I would talk to them about that and if you can't, stop writing in it.

Dear, your diary is very personal so nobody has the right to read it, however, your mom must be very concerned about you. Why don't you try to have a heart to heart talk with her?

That was wrong of her to invade your privacy. That's why a diary can be a big mistake.
