My boss is useless. She has dreadful time management, she strolls in when she feels like it, she daydreams a lot of the time, and because she's there after everyone else she thinks she's wonderful. If she managed her time better she could go home like the rest of us at the normal time. She is never wrong, she doesn't see bad in anybody (which is frustrating, and it's because she can't do confrontation) she twists things so it makes you look like you've got the problem. It's getting me down, I've worked with her for 19 years, and she's getting worse. I need the job, so don't tell me to leave. Positive answers please.

We work in a sub office, and her Manager only sees her once a month and we don't get a chance to see her! I wonder why? I think things will come to ahead very soon. Thanks for your advice people.

If shes been doing it that long it sounds like her boss should have picked it up!
I used to have a boss the same, he used to sit at his desk playing computer ping pong all day then start moaning because he had to stay late but his boss never said a word (normally because she was up to the same thing when she actually turned up)
It seems to be managers perogative to turn up late and just generally act like god owes them, but obviously there will be exceptions to my rule (just not the ones ive worked for!)
I would suggest keeping a monitor on her, and if shes still turning up late etc then inform the hr of the company or her boss and explain its getting you down, is isnt around when people need her etc. After all a manager is meant to be there for her team.

Is your boss as useless as you think? Bear with me on this... She arrives at a time that suits her... She doesn't appear to do anything, yet the jobs get done... Maybe she doesn't go home early or with the rest as she a)may be checking what everyone else has done all day (bosses do this) or b)she has other reasons to be there later (I'll leave the reasons up to you!).... She doesn't have to be wrong or admit that she is wrong, its not obligatory... Being able to not see bad in anybody could be perceived as a positive... would you prefer her to be angry all the time and always on your back? ... she doesn't do confrontation, do you want someone who is confrontational? and you have to fight all the time for your rights? She may not be twisting things to make it look like you have the problem... this is a mangement technique... you do not carry your (subordinates) colleagues monkey on your shoulder... its a well known concept of ensuring the person deals with the original problem and doesn't try to pass it off on to you....
If you have worked with her for 19 years, you should know her behaviour by now and be aware of what is happening where she is concerned... Little point in going over her head if her managers are 'happy' with her. What you need to do is learn how to deal positively with her.... ask positive questions of her like... "Tell me your secret or teach me your methods" When she asks what you mean (or looks at you blank!)... say..."I notice how easy you make your work and work load look, you appear on the surface to breeze through your work, yet I know that you work hard... how do you achieve it in such a minimal amount of time" (all positive so far... you are bulling her up... but saying that you have noticed her time keeping.... "How do you manage to keep so positive with people when you know that they have made mistakes?" "Whats your secrets.. how can I learn from you?" As she can't do confrontation, she may open up to you with her 'secrets' and then you have a similar 'power'.... But remember always... power is not having the knowledge and keeping it to yourself... power is having the knowledge and sharing it... this way, people will always come to you for advice... whilst those who seek to keep the knowledge to themselves... no one will ever ask them the secret. Hope this helps.

She is narcissistic and someone needs to tell her to get out of her little world and live in the real world. If you can't leave talk to a senior manager about her ways. Maybe they can help.

Suggest to her that she goes on a management course, but suggest it so it seems like her idea
