Yes, I do believe Jesus was in America after His Resurrection. Yes, I am a Mormon, and yes that is a belief that is generally only held by Mormons.
The specific Latitude/Longitude coordinates haven't been determined, yet. However, it is generally believed that it was somewhere on the South American continent.
If it's something you're truly interested in do a search for F.A.R.M.S. They do A LOT of research in this area.
As for tribes, if you mean the Native American names, I don't know. Personally I think they hadn't yet broken up into tribes like we think of now days. However, if you mean which tribe of Israel, the were from the tribe of Manasseh.
Dano & Inquiring: The country of America may not have been around at that time, but it's not as if Columbus used the Nina, Pinta, & Santa Maria to drag the continents of North and South America up from the ocean floor. The land was here, it just wasn't the country we now know as the United States of America, Canada, Mexico, and all the countries in South America!

Jesus had mad super powers. He could have been ANYWHERE, Baby!
j/k =) According to the Book of Mormon he was. It is as valid a religious text as any other IMHO.
Are you saying that Jesus did not want the Native Americans to have a shot at the Kingdom? I cannot remember the names of the tribes, just that there were civilizations here.

I don't have my Cleon Skousen commentaries with me at work again. I do have an entire book from about 40 or 50 years ago of Native American (both North American, South American, etc.) legends based on interesting parallels to Jesus Christ at home. However, it is packed away in a box right now. If you are really sincere about wanting to know more, I'd be glad to send you more information as soon as I find the book. Let me know.

Not sure about specifics, but when the Conquistadors came over, the Americans thought it was a bearded white God who came back as He said He would. Maybe they confused Cortez with Jesus? Too bad He didn't mention the Rapture to them! Then they would have known that something was up.
Aztecs, Mayan, and maybe Toltecs and Olmecs knew about Him, but had some snake name for Him.

They are told he went to the "Lamanites" in one of their holy books, "The Doctrine and the Covenants".
Who are the Lamanites? Good question. Most mormons will tell you they were a tribe that preceeded the more "modern" tribes. (They usually place him in South America, however).

Suspendor makes a good point, even though he might not know it...the is a "legend" of sorts, in Native American culture, of Man coming to the Lamanites and teaching them and telling them he would return again to reign personally on the earth (that of course would be Christ speaking of his second coming) that is why when Cortez came, they thought he was Christ coming again...
Anyways, I agree with what tony said. We may not know that EXACT pinpoint location - but who cares - we know he came to preach to his "other sheep". Why would he not want the WHOLE world to know of his gospel, not just those in the middle east...

No. He wasn't. And there is absolutely NO common (normal) archaeological evidence for any of the Book of Mormon. No coinage (although it's mentioned), no animal fossils (especially the elephants which are also mentione in the BOM)....nothing.
It would be a fun fairy tale if only so many good people were not caught up in it's nonsense.

Are you doubting Mormon beliefs? Just because there is no archaeological evidence, don't be confused here. But no, Jesus never walked in America.
