In order to get a "Good" car in terms of reliable, Look at a used car lot. Now I could rant and rave about Chevy vs Ford or American vs. foreign. That decision is yours,
Get an idea of what you want. Small medium large. then do a search for pricing on cars.com or a seller site. example: you said Nissan OK look for Nissan Altima. then see what price range they are asking maybe turn it up a notch or down depending on the pricing you get. Then find a lot around the house that has been there a while. You say you have 7K tell the dealer you have 5,500 and see what he has in that range. A new car dealer as a rule never has a used car below 10K. But the corner lots do.
I just bought my daughter a 2002 Ford Taurus SES (fully loaded) 71K miles for $7,500 the lot wanted 8,900. he wanted to sell a car, he did. Now that winter is upon us they want to move used cars so don't put all your cards on the table, look at several lots and then pick your best choice, offer 5500 and then if she sees one that is a bit more you have flexibility....
