Would you rather pay $6000 dollars for a car that was clean with new tires or $5000 for the same car with an oil pan leak and in need of new tires?
Please don't throw other considerations in. They are exactly the same in every other way.

Don't even consider a car with an oil leak. It can end up being a pandora's box. It might seem like an easy/cheap fix, but could end up being very expensive. What if it's actually leaking from the engines main bearing seal? How sure are you that it's only from the pan?

I'd go with the $6000 dollar car. Unless you're planning on doing the work yourself, the other car will wind up costing you almost as much. Once you add up parts & labor for a new oil pan, oil change, four tires, mounting and balancing, the few hundred dollars you'd save isn't worth the hassle.

6000. It would be more dependable, tires are expensive, and it would also save you the trouble of having to get it workd on. Why not just go ahead and spend the extra 6000 and buy the one without any problems. Like someone said earlier an oil leak is a pain in the ***. It could be in need of some major repairs.

I would purchase the 5000 one, as long as you are SURE about it being an oil pan leak. Two most common reasons for that to leak are
1. Drain screw not tight or stripped becasue was put on too tight
2. Oil pan Gasket worn out. common common!
You can buy a new set of tires for about $400

6,000 for sure
I would get 100 bucks for tha parts and then 55.00/hr labor to change the pan gasket, if that is actually the leak,
Tires will run 3-500. depending on the gold lining.....

Too many variables but a pan change is a 4-10 hour job depending on car make.

$6K. Oilpan leak could be more than just an oilpan gasket. The condition of the $6,000 car could indicate that the owner took care of other issues as well such as regular maintenance and using a qualified (or at least competent) mechanic, hopefully giving you peace of mind down the road.

i would get the 6000 one because the one with the oil problem has a good chance of developing other problems in the future.
