the recipe calls for sherry flavoring and there isn't any store in town with it...it's not sold out they just don't stock it....so we got Rum flavoring, hoping it will substitute...what do you experienced cooks think? Will it be okay?

I have found beer or wine to be a great substitute for sherry not rum flavoring. You can always try it though. Maybe it will work

Two entirely different flavors. Rum flavoring is very strong.
Try Sherry cooking wine for flavoring, not the rum

Yes, it can...my mom uses rum in place of sherry when baking......
