i had 3 of mine cut out at one time as they were impacted. It was very uncomfortable for the first day, by the second day it just felt like i had a toothache across my jaw. By day 3 i was just about back to normal. Not everyone is the same though, my daughter had 2 of hers done and went back to work the following morning.

The pain depends on several factors. Whether the teeth are far in and he/she has to go through the gums and how much work it takes to get the tooth out. What pain meds he puts you on. Whether you start to take the meds before the anesthetic wears off. Your personal pain tolerance level. How fast you heal up. And some problems/complicaitons can increase the amount of pain. When I had mine out I did them in small batches, and one was pulled. The one where he had to cut through the gums hurt for about 3 days, and then I didn't need to take any more pain medication. The pain/swelling is usually worse the 2nd day of surgery. I had a unusually fast recovery time, because I was very careful and I did fine on motrin. You will probably take a little more time and need stronger meds, I'm unusual.
I opted for no anesthetic (I hate hospitals since I detest surgeries, and wobbling out smelling like gas) and just the Novacaine. The dentist said I was the ideal patient :D I just slept and listned to my music (headphones help a lot!) and I didn't even flinch when he injected the novacaine.

I had to have all four of my wisdom teeth cut out when I was almost 16 years old. I was really scared and they gave me the option of being asleep (or technically it makes you forget the procedure).
I was scared of the butterfly IV they were going to use, but after the laughing gas they gave me, I didn't feel much and it didn't bother me. After it was over, I thought it hadn't even started yet (cuz I couldn't remember).
I didn't feel anything for awhile. In fact I couldn't feel anything of my chin area below the nose.
They gave me pain pills, antibiotics and something to clean the stitches with. I followed their instructions and everything went really well.
The only time I felt any real pain was when I didn't take a pain pill like I was supposed to. Seems like it did take awhile to feel comfortable eating though. It was achy. But it was more annoying than painful. Seemed like that lasted about a week or so.
Taking the stitches out did not hurt at all.
I am a big big big pansy when it comes to pain and the worst part of the whole deal was how scared I was before hand because I didn't know what was going to happen.

the severity of the pain depends on the person...I have had all four of my wisdoms surgically removed and I was only sore for a few hours. Some people however take days to heal

I got all four of mind out at the same time. I was in pain two - three weeks but the food you have to eat is what drove me crazy. I didn't start eating right until about three - four weeks later . I don't believe you will be in excruciating pain because they are going to give you some painkillers.

I had mine done and it took about a week of moderate pain to get over it. It wasn't as bad as I had anticipated. Ask your dentist to explain dry-sockets to you and how to avoid them; that's what makes it painful! I'd say you'll be completely healed up in 2 weeks! Godloveya.

They give you pain killers so you will not be in excruciating pain but it will be sore for about a week. Depends on whether they are impacted or not, whether you get dry socket and how fast you heal in general. You will be fine though.
