If a mother is always telling her son,

1. God loves you no matter what you do
2. God will forgive you no matter what you do
3. We're all born with a sinful nature
4. This world will only get worse(why try to make it better?)
5. Just pray about it ( Like that will fix the problem)

Any man that has this kind of moral base WILL end up in prison

wrong problem

boys need the influence of a father, while the morality of the mother is a restraining and helping factor and quite a lagre one at that, the primary problem is not the mother but the absence of the influence of the father

grandparents in the Black community have been rather heroic at helping raise children but they can only do so much. The moms did theri part, The grands did their part... its up to the dads
Church and youth programs are a significant help

I think if you looked at black teens involved in youth groups at church verses black teen atheists... well... that would be an eye opener

No, you misunderstand. Most all black families are raised "so-called" Christian. It is a cultural thing. Blacks stay in church more that any other group. However, "Christian" they are usually not. There is a vast difference in going to church and being a born again Christian.
Thats not to say that some blacks are not Christian, because there are some. Just not as many as one would think. When it comes to being Christian (really) blacks (as a group) are a lot like Catholics: most think they are Christian, but very few really are. They just want to look good on the outside.

Bad ploy to get us to your site to promote your music. I checked it out anyway. But I'm not buying your CD.

Your web site says" My mother went traveling as a dancer when I was eight so she let our grandmother keep us in Birmingham, Alabama"

Are you saying your grandmother was not mentally fit to raise you? Assuming you think you turned out well...Your site doesn't say you went to jail. So you turned out well DESPITE your mentally unfit grandmother? Or was she OK after all?

Anyway, here are some things you NEED to know: Your list of things black mothers are "always telling her son" omit a very important message:

You must be born again! You must accept Jesus as Lord and Saviour.

What's wrong with God loving you no matter what you do? Didn't your grandmother love you no matter what you did? That doesn't mean she condoned or accepted everything you did, especially when your actions violated her rules or were harmful to yourself or others. But she still cared, no?

God WILL forgive you if you repent.

This world will only get worse. But we are called to be in the world, not OF it. When this world passes away, don't you want to know you're going to heaven?

Prayer works. But if you're not born again, God doesn't hear your prayers and isn't obligated to answer them, unless it's the sinner's prayer.

Bottom line is, please don't advise ppl on their spiritual lives when you're obviously not clear on these things yourself.

OK. Here's the thing. Religion or anyone preaching religion is NOT going to prevent people from doing what they want to do. Given that you said "single mothers". Single mothers are rarely at home, why??? Because they are working to provide for the family (I should know, I'm a single parent, and no my son is not in jail). Most black single parents live in poverty stricken, drug and gang infested neighborhoods......so who do you think these young teenage boys have to look up to? The men in their hoods because there are no REAL man in their household. Now, they do make the decision themselves to follow the pact, but religion preaching mothers are not bad mothers just because their kids CHOOSE to do something dumb to get their asses thrown in jail. So stop with the nonsense and get the facts. That's like me saying. "why all rich white kids are on drugs???? Is it their parents fault because their kids are on drugs???"

I was a Prison Chaplain for 4 years. The Black men I Ministered to were very committed to Jesus Christ, and were ready to live productive Christian Lives when they got out. They gave their Godly Mothers much credit for the positive impact they did have in their lives, and said their Mothers Prayers were what kept them going.

It more of a cultural thing not a religious one. The responsibility lies in the people and it's government to fix this problem. Not the church. Don't give me thumbs down, the statistics don't lie, on average to population ratio there is a higher percentage of black males in prison than white males. Black males make of 70 percent of the prison population and only make up 10 percent of the American population, see how uneven that is? Something needs to be done to remedy this situation.

I agree. You cannot only tell you're child those morals. You must live by God's world and have the child live a Godly life as well. Only then, will the child be safe from ever entering a life of crime.

You state that most of these men were raised by SINGLE, black women. The lack of a father in the home could also contribute to the problem.

God still loves you for being a atheist. This is prove that the presence of sin in someones life has nothing to do with who raised them. Im quite sure u think youre parents did a fine job even though you denie God and his presence.
