A Gastroenterologist performs the vast majority of colonoscopies although some Family Physicians and General Surgeons do as well. The cost just for the physician is typically more than $600 and this does not include the fee for the outpatient hospital room utilized nor the medications given for sedation. I do not advocate a colonoscopy if there is not a reason meaning that I do not advise patients to have them on a routine basis. The worst part is the 'clean out' not the colonoscopy itself.

It's a G.I. doc (gastrointerologist) and it's typically done in an endoscopy room at your local hospital with a sedation nurse, a tech, and the doc. The procedure takes anywhere from 15 mins to an hour depending on how clean your colon is, whether or not the doc looks all the way to your stomach or just your sigmoid colon (called a flexible sigmoidoscopy) and the number of biopsies needed. Make sure you follow ALL directions COMPLETELY before showing up for your procedure. The worst thing in the world to hear is that you have to come back because your colon is too dirty to see anything. The cost should be covered by your insurance provider, although some docs will give you a good discount for paying in cash.

Usually a general surgeon will do this procedure. It is a fairly simple procedure and is done on an out-patient basis. It is well worth the cost if you or your primary doctor thinks you need one.

Gastroenterologist. I don't know how much a colonoscopy costs, but I had an endoscopy, which is through the stomach, and it was about $900.

The best person to advise you is your family doctor. If they feel you need a colonoscopy you will be referred to a specialist surgeon or gastroenterologist who performs colonoscopy

Depending on the services available in your area, it may be a gastroenterologist (as mentioned above), a proctologist, or a general surgeon.

It would not be a gynecologist. Wrong hole.

Don't know what the cost is.
