A group of friends; all have been to vegas before but stayed on the strip, want to know the best place to stay downtown. Main activity will be playing poker.

I live in vegas and I have relatives that visit me. They have been getting special packages with El Cortez (bus ride packages). The Casino is old school, my wife and I have won money on the slots over there and I believe that they renovated the rooms. Alot of smoke though, but its like that in all the casinos. All the casinos around the Freemont experience usually have good deals for the price. I would pay a little bit more to stay at the palms though.

The Golden Nugget is by far the nicest, and the table minimums are lower than the strip.

Binion's Horseshoe does the most poker tourneys, though.

Golden Nugget is nice. Binions is probably best for poker. The Fitzgerald is probably cheapest.

All are centrally located on Fremont St.

I stayed at The Hilton Flamingo, it is fairly central, cheap yet nice accommodation.
