All of you who voted democrat this election, is this what you wanted in a change of direction with regard to national security issues? Pelosi giving the most sensitive of sensitive national security posts to someone with a proven track record of being bribed by organized crime? How long before this person is selling our national security secrets to al queda? Wasn't corruption a reason you voted against the republicans? Here we have as an immediate consequence (it is only the tip of the iceburg) of extreme corruption putting all of our lives in incredible jeapardy because of how you voted. This and the democrats plans to reinstate the draft.

Is this what you wanted, when you voted democrat? Because you are going to have to live with that decision. We all are.

Hastings was elected by his constituency. Perhaps you wish to second-guess them? Or maybe use some stratagem like photo ID or electoral confusion to disenfranchise those whose choice you don't like.

On the other hand, maybe you don't think extorting political contributions by those seeking legislative favors is tantamount to b bribery.

Just one example: the banks and credit card issuers "bribed" -- in your manner of expression -- Congresspersons, Republicans mainly, with $40 million and got the Bankruptcy Code emasculated.

You had just better hope that you are not laid low by uninsured medical bills, divorce and/or unemployment. Because if you are, bankrutpcy -- envisaged in the Constitution -- may be unavailable to you.

Then there's the MIlitary-Industrial Complex and all those othrr lobbies.

Organize crime? And next you'll say that the Cali Cartel and Osama bin Laden prefer the Democrats. Actually they both love George W. Bush: he's done a lot for both.

Do you believe everything you read about people? That is a great question to ask because it sure looks like you do! For ever article about bad things you can find good things. For every crime there is a good deed. Go on and on and on. The People voted and you are not happy, boohoo! If people do not like the direction things go they will vote again in a couple years but perhaps the Republican's biggest fear is that the Democrat led congress will do a good job and they will be out of jobs?

Well, this is a sorry state of affairs we have crafted for ourselves, as Americans, isn't it? Reps are going to prison in droves for corruption, are implicated in ethics violations every other time you turn around, and now there are allegations against the Democrats. So, for whom should a decent law abiding citizen vote? Both of those parties are out.

I have lived with the Republican way, and didn't like it at all. I am interested in seeing what the Dem's can/will do. And no matter what the results of any election, it's not the end of the world--we've been led by better and worse, and yet the average American keeps chugging along.

I believe that most democrats simply voted for the party that they believe in, mainly because it seems that you butt wipe republicans have screwed things up royally. Just maybe reinstating the draft will get some of you on the front lines as I have not seen any recruitment ads aimed at anyone but minorities since this war based on lies has begun.

The biggest security risk we face in the U.S.A. today is poorly educated, young republicans who think participating in a democracy is getting their opinions for Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly then parroting them out whenever they get a chance.
If we keep acting like a bunch of spoiled children fighting amongst ourselves, we will go broke following failed policies and squandering our nation's men and resources while enemies with more patience and maturity wait for our republic to fall.
Wake up, take some courses or read up on 20th century politics and history. Help build up this country rather than tear it down.

Nice job to the people that said:

A.) Alcee Hastings is not a defrocked judge.
B.) Alcee Hastings will not be in a position to harm national security. (I guess the chair of the Intelligence Committee is just a figure head post)

C.) That Nancy Pelously never said she would appoint those members of Congress that have seniority as opposed to being the best qualified.

Good Job!

I think Jane Harmon has the expertise to deserve to head the Intelligence Committee. But don't panic about Alcee Hastings. He will not really be in a position to harm our national security. I think you know this, but are just trying to score political points here. Good luck!

I agree that Harmen would have been a much stronger choice for that position than Hastings. Hopefully, like with the Murtha-Hoyer choice, wiser heads will prevail within the party.

I am a republican, but I couldn't bring myself to voting for them, they felt so entrenched that they thought that they couldn't be touched, I realised that the democrats were a joke, but the republicans had to be taught a lesson, I only wished that we could have thrown the likes of Bush, and McCain to the curb. I didn't vote democrat, I voted libertarian. I will live with my decision. and just hope that in the future our representatives will listen to the people who put them there. p.s. Anyone who would listen to O'reilly must be a pin head.
