What do you mean by community library? If you mean a library accessible to the community (like a public library), then, the purpose is to have materials: books, CDs, videos, DVDs, and many other services available to the public.

The cost is usually covered through taxes: either state income taxes (like in Ohio), property taxes (levies), community foundations, and private fundraisers.

The library is community gathering place. Libraries offer facilities for meetings, programs and learning. The library is at the heart of the community. A well supported library= an educated community, a healthy community, a diverse community.

It can be used as a community focal point, to meet friends in a relaxed atmosphere, to share information, to use the Internet, as well as read and loan books, DVDs, Videos. Local newspapers are provided also journals, magazines, and lots of company.

College and university course information is often posted, or community courses, also some local employment.

Our community library provides information surgeries, for people who can not get out and about, but can get to their local community library.

A library can be used a public forum, a place for people to meet up, old people have coffee mornings there, they have free internet access and of course borrowing books, CD's, DVD's Videos, tapes. they provide services like photocopying, study areas, access to fax machines, they are usually a host to a notice board with community notices and events on it.

I'm sure they do more, but as you can see it brings together a community.

are you serious? what isn't the point? So that people can be more educated that can't afford to waste money on books they read once as well as providing other resources to everyone equally. Opportunities to learn are more equal with a community library. They also provide a place to get away and get work done efficiently.

It is a library open to the community which it is started in...it enables people of that community to check out books that they may need or would like to read with out the cost of purchasing them.

The purpose of a community library is to loan books and other media (VCR tapes, DVDs, CDs, etc) to citizens for a short time. People can also go to the library to study, read, relax or spend time on a computer. Typically, these services are all free, as long as the media checked out are returned on time and in good condition for the next citizen who wants to check them out.

Try visiting the nearest one. The purpose should be obvious!
They give the community access to Books, for reading or study or other media! I often visit as I read a lot of books and would not have the money or space to keep every book!

The library makes books available to the public. Books can be rather expensive after all. Simple, no?
