Is our children learning?
Oh... sorry. Had a little flashback.
The similarities between the two are that both groups are passionate about their position.
But, that's just religion in general, and that's pretty much the end of the similarities - and were passion for a cause a real basis for comparison, then there are just as many similarities between religion and patriotism, religion and sports fans, religion and any number of things.

yes, And I'm an atheist. There are two basic types of atheists and religious people.
1) fear motivated who develop cults\ war like in nature.
2) life motivated who develop healthy relationships. win\win in nature.
Judge people based on their personal view of reality, not the pigeon hole they are forced to conform to.
The war is between the collective and the individual. The collective is winning. That means you don't matter, you can be replaced.

If there are, the crucial difference is that the atheist will consider any evidence against his/her ideological position. Hardcore theists won't do that. That alone rather sets aside any similiarities you could think of.

I would have to say no bc religious occults believe in SOME sort of religion. Atheists believe in no religion--they don't believe in God, satan, Heaven, hell, etc. At least that is my understanding?

Absolutely not, I don't think any atheist leader would be able to talk his group of followers into drinking poison cool aid.

If you try hard enough to find them, there are similarities between everything.
Did you have a point?
