When I am feeling stressed or bothered by negative thoughts I like to comfort myself with food. I know this can be an unhealthy practice. Does anyone have any suggestions for comfort foods that can be healthy or at least not as bad as fast food or candy bars? I know about meditating and taking deep breaths. I do those as well, but I still would like to comfort myself with food and work my way up to being comforted by deep breaths and not food.

I was on a low carb diet and something I found very satisfying was diet A&W rootbeer mixed with some cream, or milk if you dont have cream.
also, a nice tomato based marinara over some stir fried onions peppers and mushrooms. Yummm!
And keep thinking positive, exercise and dont forget to reward yourself once in awhile...Friday night fish fry or something like that.

I like a big bowl of chili or homemade soup. Niether takes very long to cook but its enough to distract you for 30 min and give you a chance to relax. Easy chicken soup recipe is on the back of the Swansons Broth box.

I eat pudding, usually butterscotch or tapioca...

I also eat alot of cheses for comfort foods.

I have been known to buy a bunch of banannas and a jar of jiffy peanutbutter...slice the banannas and spread the peanut butter on them..

Comfort foods vary per person, mine are just a bit away for the normal..

Soup is a good comfort food for me.Scotch broth or tomato with cheese in it. Those sugar free puddings in the dairy section are great..you can put sugar free whipped cream on them. Good luck

Homemade soup. It's really cathartic to make and very healthy. Nothing like soup for stress or just feeling down.

I know it sounds like it wouldnt be fun BUT- try soup and salad. It's not fun like ice cream etc- but it occupies your time, and also brings you back to a safer time in life when your mom told you to eat your salad and veggies. Ah, that didn't make sense, but I know what it means.

I'm a macaroni and cheese fanatic and nothing makes me feel better than that. Not particularly healthy though.

i like really good sandwiches with chips. You could try watermelon- it's cool and sweet and is sugary, but not as bad as junk food. It may be more expensive when outta season.
