en mi familia = in my family which can go at the end or beginning
there are 3 people = hay tres personas OR somos tres personas (we are three people)

You can say:
Existen tres personas en mi familia, or:
Hay tres personas en mi familia
If you say "hay tres gentes" it will be wrong.
in Portuguese you have:
Existem três pessoas na minha famÃlia.
Portuguese and Spanish are very similar.
