There could be something in the above and your symptoms could be part of the cycle of the condition - irritability is at times a sign you are on the way up from a deep depression. Really you need to see your doctor to review how effective your medication is and it certainly would not hurt to stop the cod liver oil but it is my understanding that it would be several days of an abrubt halt to medication before you would suffer rebound symptoms as SSRI's are slow to achieve therapeutic level and slow to fall below that also. Get it checked.

I have tried all sorts of pills over the years and none of them worked for me - not saying that will be case for everyone though.
I read somewhere that when you are feeling depressed, your thoughts are either in the past or living out a future that has not happened yet. If you bring your thoughts back to right now, this very moment, as you look at the screen, go to the toilet, cook a meal etc you cannot be depressed. Try focusing on the present right now. You will feel better. It is simple, but not easy.

Fish oil is supposed to contain omega-3 fatty acids that are supposed to help with neurone metabolism and hence is supposed to help with emotional and cognitive orders. That's a lot of suppositions, though. I tried fish oil (without the antidepressants) and it did nothing but make my fridge smell for a week.
Add to this that some antidepressants can be dangerous if taken with foods high in tyrosine. If you are on MAO inhibitors, you should avoid herring, for example. Not likely that the oil is going to contain a lot of tyrosine (as it is an amino acid) though.
But it could be either that the fish oil is inhibiting the digestion of the antidepressant, as one other contributor has suggested, or that there is some reaction between an ingredient of fish oil and your particular medication.
If it doesn't feel good, don't do it! :-)

Two things: one, cod liver oil is not absorbed into your system from your intestines, so it can't possibly help with depression. Secondly, if you take it with your oral antidepressant, it will block absorption of that medicine from your stomach and small intestine. It'll be as if you didn't take your antidepressant at all. My suggestion would be to quit the cod liver oil and then to look up whomever gave you the idea that cod liver oil helps depression and relieve your depression by beating him up, 'cause he's a blamed fool!

Not as such, tablets like St Johns Wort are known to help depression just check against any other medication you are taking to make sure they can be taken together. Also it should not be taken if you are on the oral contraceptive as it can make it fail. Hope you are ok x

Don't make a poor fish suffer just because you are. I suffer from depression, but I would never inflict pain on someone else just to reduce the symptoms. There are other ways to make you feel better.

i have depression too but was never recommended them. I hear they are carcinogenic and I know we are told that about alot of products. best thing is not to take them if they don't agree with you. take vitamin B complex or bach rescue remedy. Good luck.
