well, i feel like mine will never stop. i was on meds for years, then i was taken off of them, and now i feel as crazy and depressed as ever. it's a chemical imbalance in the brain, and that might not always be fixable. emotional depression is fixable, and chemical can be, but sometimes it's not. just the draw of the hand i guess.

You need to separate depression from the feeling of loss. Depression is a chronic dejected feeling of one's own worthlessness and the futility of life. It may become sufficiently deep to cause irregular eating and sleeping habits, various addictions, or even manifestations such as rashes and dis-association. Mood changes become more labile. Acute depression can lead to irrational behavior and even suicide. The feeling of loss is similar but not as severe and is slowly overcome by normal routines (depression resists routines). The loss weighs heavily during the initial stage but becomes less of a burden with the passage of time. Remembrance of happy times spend with the departed are a way to soothe the grief and tears are part of the healing process. True depression needs professional care and guidance. but the loss of a loved one can be comforted by your friends and family and the clergy. Death is a part of living.

because depression is a mental ILLNESS....like a disease.....expecting some-one to "stop their depression" is like expecting some-one to cure themself of cancer....it just doesn't work like that....if people were capable of just stopping depression, then no-one would ever be depressed...no one chooses to have a mental illness

Some people can't stop their depression because, by definition, it is a desease and not under their control.

honestly, noone chooses to be depressed. what you have to focus on is WHY your depressed. once you get to the root of it then go from there. is this something you can change? if it is, then do something about it!! if it is something that you cant change, then you have to acknowlege that it is something that you cannot change and get on with your life
