First of all, you need to learn the difference between Hunters and Poachers. Hunters obey the laws enacted to protect the animals - game and non-game animals. Hunters respect the animal they are hunting. True, most Hunters do so for the sport, but it is fair chase and the animal becomes food for the Hunter and his/her family. Like it or not, we by nature are predators. Hunting also helps keep animal population under control. Since we have intruded into the animals area, there is less room and natural food for large populations. Larger populations means disease and hunger. Poachers kill animals illegally. They do not obey the laws. They kill for profit because some PEOPLE like to buy the tusk, furs, etc of non-game and protected animals. Don't put the blame on Hunters, but the PEOPLE that finance the Poachers with their illegal purchases.

The branch of government of each state that is in control of the animal population decides how best to cull the herds to maintain optimum herd size for the health and well being of the animals. One way of doing this is to sell hunting licenses and set limits on the number of animals that may be taken. In that way the government does not have to employ staff for that purpose. The hunting licenses generate money that can be used to keep the animal population healthy. The hunters are paying the government for the privelage to hunt. The animals benefit because overpopulation depleats the food supply which can cause poor health or animals seeking nurishment from areas inhabited by people, which can have risk to health, safety, and life in the human population.

The only profit hunting I know of is fur trapping,or if there is a bounty on an animal, which hasn't been imposed for some years. You can legally shoot or trap fur bearing animals such as mink, fox, coydogs, beaver, fisher and others like that during leagal seasons and sell the hides, but there's not a lot of money in it.I'm sure you can eat the animal too,but I don't think many folks do that trap or shoot furbearing animals do.As for big game animals, the only way you could make money off of hunting them is by guiding a hunter to a potential shot.

I was unaware of anyone hunting for profit. With all the costs involved (gun, ammo, clothing, licenses, transportation costs, and time needed), I fail to see where there is any profit at all. If however, you are aware of someone hunting for profit (a market hunter), you need to contact your local fish and game department, otherwise you could be considered an accessory after the fact.

No selling wild animals is illegal, you can sell the hides but they are only worth $5.00 here in Montana and most of the people I know donate them to the Boy Scouts. I did get a Non typical whitetail buck that I sold the rack for $600.00. The only people I know of that make money from wild animals are outfitters that people pay to take them hunting.
