Plasmas vs LCD.....
Plasma: Suppose to have the best picture quality, HD goes up to 720p on the cheaper models (2k or less). There are plasmas that came out (Pioneer elite:example) that will display at full 1080p, but you will pay about 4k+. I recommend plasma if the size you want is over 42inches.
LCD: there are many LCD's out there now that will provide ust as good, if not better then the low-mid end plasmas. I recommend the Sharp Aquos or the Sony Bravia. The new Aquos seems to be better then the Bravia, But those two models will be their best competitors. LCD's are great, and I tend to be more biast towards this technology. One thing that is defenitely better is that
there is no glare from the screen (Plasmas have glare, so its difficult to watch it in a well lit room).
I have the 45" Aquos. I wouldn't of went with any other brand.
So to make a long story short, if you plasma, go with the Pioneer,
Panasonic, or Samsung, if you plan on only spending 3k or lower.
But if you have money to spend....Pioneer Elite...hands down.
If you go LCD, Sharp Aquos or Sony bravia, other brands really can't compete on the quality of these two giants.
50" or higher , go plasma
42-46" That will be a toss up, too many variables!
40" or lower, go LCD.
Make sure it has HDMI and 1080p for the Blue ray and/or HD-DVD.

I am not familiar with models available in the UK nor how much they cost over there. BUT a plasma will cost you a little more, their picture will be better however, they will not last as long as LCD (5 years apposed to 10...or so the experts predict). The LCD will be a little less money, still very good quality, and last longer.

I like the idea of a Plasma TV. I am looking into buying a Panasonic 42". But they make a good 50" as well. Try and wait until after Super Bowl, as prices should really drop. Also try and get 1080p, it is supposed to be a better picture.

You'll be lucky to find a good plasma for £1000, the best are in the region of £2500. Go for a LCD they last longer. Plasmas are prone to screen burn in of logos.
LG is the best at the moment, they make TVs for all the big brand names.

I'm not an expert but my husband thinks he is (bless him)!!! He says that LCD (HD ready) is the way to go and that plasmas are old school and lower picture quality. Good luck in your TV hunt.

I always understood LCD was better than plasma although it was more expensive. I didn't even consider buying a plasma.
