Yes she will freak out ; no way to ease that ; she will know her pup is missing; I had to drag my female out to get her to go to the bathroom; she will be okay and will later leave them a little more; when you take the pups take her outside so she can't see; have someone there for her to play , toss a ball to try to take her mind off it until you get back; keep pups warm when traveling with them

when you take the newborn puppies in to the vet you need to take momma dog along so the vet can check her out, make sure shes healthy also, she needs to be with them 24 hours a day so she can nurse them and clean them it wont hurt her, the only time you need to take her out is when she goes to potty, you will probably have to make her go to go potty ,but she'll go and then want right back with her puppies, she dsent need to poo near the pups, also dont put her food were she will have to get out of the cage to eat cause chances are she wont and will end up starving herself, the puppies will drain her try giving her some boiled chicken but dont restrict food, when the pups get older she will feel better about leaving them alone but for right now let her use her instinct as a momma, good luck

First of all, take her with you to the vet. It will make her feel better, and also you can talk to the vet about your concerns with her behavior. For now, set some food & water near the cage, close enough for her to see/smell, but not close enough for her to reach from there. She needs to get up. Once she eats and drinks, eventually, she will need to go out to go potty. Good Luck with the new family. :)

We have had three different litters of puppies from two different dogs and both dogs acted different. The first litter the mother wouldn't leave their sides for anything. When we took the puppies to the vet we had to place them all in a very large dog carrier with lots of padding then let her in with them. The second litter was with a different mother and she wouldn't stay with the puppies at all, we had trouble even getting her to let them nurse. The third litter she had the puppies fed them, and stayed close to them but took time to do her own things, which was probably because she was used to having puppies.
If this is your dog's first litter don't stress it too much, just try and get her out once in awhile. One thing that worked for us on the first litter was to take all the puppies in our hands and walk around with them outside, Colbi would instinctively follow and that was how we got her to eat and use the bathroom.
Hope that helps, best of luck

its okay to take the pups depending on how old they are ,let her come out and get the food so she could move around remember she now has a lot of weight so you have to give her a minute to get used to the weigth untill she gets back on track if they are atlease 1 1/2 months its fine just make sure the mom is not overwelmed and bites you other than that it should be ok!

She should go to the vet too. When I take mommas and her babies they only charge for one visit so have her checked out too. Child birth is hard I was under a dr care after one baby, How many did she have??
I do take my momma's food and water or put it closer to them. I do rescue and some of the moms may not understand everything going on being thrown in a foster home to have babies. So I do make everything convenient for the mom. SHe has had a hard enough life and I always reassure them that they wont have to do it anymore. I need them to learn to trust me fast to help the babies be happy and healthy and find people to love and care for them too.

There's a link for some really good information. Sounds like she's an overprotective mom, huh? I'm sure she's exhausted! It's very important that she gets proper nutrition and exercise, however, since her pups are depending on her to provide their nourishment! I believe I'd take her along to the vet for the checkup!

keep bringing her water and food to her till she is ready to wean the pups. dogs have an inate intelligence about this, and she will decide when she is ready to leave them. trying to make her come out might give her anxiety. as to the vet visit, you will just have to isolate mom as you place the babies in a safe carrying crate for the trip to the vet. reasure her that they will be okay and bring them back to her promptly.

yes leave the water about a meter or so from her, so she has to get up and leave them for a minute of so.
Praise her and tell her what a good girl she's being!
She should really let one of the adults get close to her pups, dont let everyone in to touch and see them, just have one person at the moment.

Take her to the vet with the puppies.
It is normal for her to want to stay with them all the time (at least for now). I always bring my girls their food and water, just make sure the water is where the pups can't fall in it and drown. You may have to put her on leash and make her go outside to potty.
