Historical or whatever. What are the feelings of the people from both sides? Is it different or something bad is gonna break up?

Bosporus you are right but I'm not an armenian. I work on a topic of my university that asks me to write down examples of neighbour countries and their differences. Also I have heard a fact that took place between some aeroplanes from the both sides resulting in a death and that it's an everyday fact.. So I'm here to get a little bit help to make things clear and use them. But your opinion, Bosporus, espessially for young people is really admirable!

Olcay-çalıkuşu, I'm afraid, you've never answered my question or I never asked your total opinion about the present situation. I asked your opinion for an hypothetic earth-time.

Oh! I made a mistake! I thought that I was in another question of mine that's why I said that above. Your opinion is finally ok.

I am Turkish so my responses can be one-sided at times but I will do my best to remain objective for you to understand the situation better.

I think both countries are hostile to each other in politics but people are getting along too well except for nationalist extremists.

So here are the few facts that caused issues in history:
Historic conflicts:
- Turks (or Ottomans) occupied the lands of Greeks.
- Greeks rebelled and declared independence from Ottoman Empire when it was weak and could no longer keep its lands together
- After the WWI, Greeks invaded West of Asia Minor (which was now the homeland of Turks)
- After Turkish republic (Turkey) was declared Greeks living in Asia Minor were exchanged with Turks living in modern Greece. Most of the people were forced to immigrate by Greek and Turkish states. (additional info a great kind of music called Rembetiko emerged from these people who miss their homelands and sometimes you can find some people in Greece who still miss their homelands in Turkey or vice versa).
- In 1950's, there were false news on Turkish media that Ataturk's (founder of modern Turkey) house in Saloniki was destroyed by Greeks so Turks were outrageous and attacked the shops owned by Greek merchants in Istanbul. Unfortunately a lot of good people were afffected. And another wave of forced emigration and exchange happened.
Modern Conflicts that continue:
- In 1974 Turkey invaded north of Cyprus to defend the rights of Turkish minority being supressed by Greek-Cypriot state and some Greek nationalists. Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus was founded in 1983 (not recognized internationally). Greek Cypriot state entered in EU in 2004, theoratically representing whole of the island. Now there is a very strange situation. Technically North of Cyprus is a member of EU and controlled by Cypriot Government but practically there is a another soverign state there. This is one of the biggest issues between Greece and Turkey and a solution looks as far as a solution between Israel and Palestinians.

- Second major issue is shortly known as 12-miles. In international sea law a countries international waters are 12-miles off their land for open seas and 6-miles for lakes and closed seas. The conflict is Greece claims in Aegan Sea they have right to 12 miles while Turkey object. According to Turkey Agean is closed sea and if Turkey accepts 12 miles, Turkish ships and fisherman will enter Greek waters as soon as they leave a Turkish port as West of Turkey is surrounded by Greek islands. Eg. This would in theory make a Turkish ship leaving Istanbul for Iskenderun requesting Greek permission which is totally unacceptable for Turkey.

Turkey claims in Agean the international waters should start from 6-miles and if Greece acts against this Turkey will accept this as declaration of war and act accordingly.

So there is a lot of military tension between navies and air forces in this area. Both armies are ordered to keep the peace of course but some soldiers from both sides really like to push the boundries and sometimes one plane to plane or ship to ship battle or a threat for a battle can occur.

Unfortunately both of these modern issues are very far from being resolved. Greece is believing its right and has full support from EU as being a member while Turkey would see any compromise as weakness.

Personally I don't know how the political conflicts can be resolved. Maybe in 15-20 years Turkey would join the EU and Schengen treaty and these issue would just become nostalgia.

Final note: both armies spend a lot of money to keep in shape against each other so arm manufacturers don't want these conflicts go away as it is a good way of making profit.

I a half Greek and half Italian. I think both countries at some point treated each other agressively. This lies in the history. Greeks claim the lands in Turkey becausethey were structured with Greek civilization thousands of years ago. BUt after that for 600 years the lands belong to the Ottomans. Strangely enough we try to claim the lands in Anatolia but the Turks have never tried to claim the lands in Greece although they owned it until recently (late 1800s) So maybe we also have been agressive. I think after the two earthquakes that hit both countries there is a olot of warmth. As both countries helped each other. And they understood better that they share a very similar culture. I like Turkish people and every single one I know likes Greece. Except the problem of Cyprus which is a battle between politicians I dont see a problem.

It all started in Byzantine, when the Turks appeared and started pushing the Byzantine citizens who were Christians, Greek speaking and having an inferior culture than the incoming neighbours. The Byzantine emperors did not manage to make them Christians even if they tried. If this had happened, I personally think that it whould result to a very strong empire. Anyway, being a war people, Turks continued to take Byzantine lands. Independent from the Pope, Byzantines did not have the Christian help and were conquered.
After that the Turks arrived outside Vienna. The beslaved people was suffering. Lack of justice, brutality, abductions of children for the army, the famous Yeni-char, slaughtering, blood, too much blood.
The Greek language was forbidden to be taught, and that is why they learned Greek in the Secret school at night by priests. I just want to say here to the Turk friends that what I say are facts and history. Nobody now hates the people of Turkey, we are very peacefull. I have noticed that the Turks have a very nationalistic sensitivity, and they think that everybody hates them. That thing is used by the leading class who wants to keep the privilleges. That is why the middle class is strong only near the Aegean and in big cities. Anyway the Greeks want nothing, because they have a solid country, Democratic, European and wealthy. There is also another thing. The Aegean is full of oil, and this naturally causes tensions. At the same time the Turkish society changes. There are good peacefull powers in Turkey, most of them proeuropean, but there are also those who do not want the change.
Except that Turkey is near the unstable Iraq, facing the problem of a Kurd state, has complicated relations with Syria, and the big Armenian problem. What I want to say is that now Greece is the only supporter of Turkeys entrance to European Union,
I will tell you now some things from history.
1. When Ottoman empire collapsed the Turks preffered to surrender to the Greek army.
At 1921 When the Greeks were in Ismir and fighting for Ankara
there were elections in Greece and a govermental change. The friends of Britain and France lost and the friends of Germany. won the war. That was the disaster for Greece and formed the new Turkey.
I have heard terrible stories from that war from my grand-grand father who was their
Anyway that is history, I now buy Turkish imported fish, I want peace and a good neighbourhood, I want nothing that is not mine, I give nothing mine and I know that we both are used by our allies. Good luck and sorry if I was unplesant.

To Cordial. I read very carrefully your analysis,it was a fair one
giving the Turkish point of view by a civilized manner.I just want to add about the facts of 1950 s which I know well since I live in Saloniki that they were Organized, and after that I think that Istanbul lost the multicultural colour which Greeks were giving
I salute you and peace for all

You mean Turkish govn vs Greece govn? Becoz I think there is no problem between Türk and Greek people to treat agressive to each other.

The problem is Cyprus for the govns. We would recognize south Cyprus if Greece recognizes The North Cyprus Turkish Republic. Always we begin the 1st steps for a peaceful Cyprus as u know(remember the Annan Plan). I think thats enough for Papadapulos to insist on this subject.

I m realy not agressive to Greece and I m sure that Greeks are lovely people.

Who does say, that "Turkey treats agressive to Greece"?

Actually, if the politicians (especially the Greek ones) push themselves back, I think the people of both sides will regard each other in a more positive way.

I think you are an Armenian. It's valid for you too. I hope unprejudiced young people achieve a more peaceful world.

Thank you for your compliment. Btw, a Turkish high officer has just visited Greece and they decided to collaborate in military issues, no more armed patrols and so on. Sounds well!

Treating agressive..No :-) I knew some friendly Greeks here and I liked them :-)..I haven't met them and I haven't got a Greek friend but they're people too and I can be very good friend with a friendly Greek..But I knew some Greeks who don't like us here. Then you know, I can't be friends with them.Because I like friendly people and people who have hating feeling.

Greek, Armenian, American, Russian, French people..they are all people..The countries and history shouldn't be factors in the relationships I think..

extraordinarily specific that the land mafia is at the back of the full ecosystem, and this occurs with the aid of fact the goverments of each and every united states do no longer ban homes on burnt soils contained in the forests, so each and every consciousless constructor has the audacity to construct any sort of edifice. If the goverment might impose a regulation that one and all premises contained in the burnt down places be demolished, no one might even think of of making returned contained in the woods (because it extremely occurred in Germany)
