I think courage is when you are scared out of your mind about something but continue to follow the right path or course of action. I would like to think I am courageous, but I haven't really had to test my courage yet.

I spose in order to be courageous one must first be scared. I know being scared in some situations is a good thing but truth be told so far never been scared. They say that is a mark of a sociopath but I am not one of those cuz I do care. I just see what needs to be done and do it. The fact that I would not mind dying affects some things but I am not into being maimed and that possibility never stopped me either. I think courage and fear are affected by ones genetic make up, and have very little to do with environment or decisions.
Paranoia is fear and real to many even though nothing dangerous threatens except in their imagenations. Hypervigilance while being similar is knowing the world is full of bad stuff and keeping an eye out for it.
Me thinks you asked a tough question. Bet nobody actually knows the answer.
I'm the guy you want standing on the corner when you trip in front of a bus but thibk about this I go to heaven and the rest of you stay here. My 3rd wife used to tell me when I left the house to help with the ____________(whatever that thing is with the posts sticken up) course, That if I risked my life and died she was gonna kick my dead body.

I would define courage as the ability to stand up for yourself and/or for others despite the fear of what may happen to you. How courageous am I? Well, I have been in the Air Force for over 16 years, I've been to Iraq (Desert Shield/Desert Storm) and Bosnia/Kosovo, and I would take up my M-16 at a moment's notice to fight anyone who threatened the freedom of any American (including myself). Is that courageous? I'm also very outspoken and believe in doing the right thing, even if it means pissing people off or making an unpopular decision. Is that courageous? Personally, I think that people who work in inner cities with drug dealers and gang members and try to get them to change their ways so they can be productive members of society and good role models for others are some of the most courageous people in the world...

IMHO - Courage is going against the flow. When the whole world is going one way it means having the fortitude to not follow the crowd. I see many courageous Christians on YA!; that even though they are mocked and cursed they still remain loving and kind. Me? I tend to be less patient and smack dimwits with my wand when they get annoying. But I digress...

Courage is the ability to grit your teeth and do what you have to do to get the job done.
Case in point: A single mother, getting up early, providing breakfast for her kids, getting them off to school, heading for work...staying up late to get all the chores done...and providing for her children at great sacrifice. Then, doing the same thing the next day...through the years!
They are some of my heros, these women of courage!
FYI: I'm a man.

it is the abilty to deal with pain, danger or fear independently alone physically & mentally. we, borgs are courageous, but then again pain & fear it not in our hardwired brains. we can sense danger but we r not afraid, we r one.
